In Focus: Man United want Real Madrid duo in De Gea deal

According to The Sun, Manchester United are prepared to sell David de Gea to Real Madrid this summer, providing that Raphael Varane and Alvaro Morata are included in the deal.

What’s the story?

Had Real Madrid’s fax machine been working in the latter stages of the 2015 summer transfer window, there is every chance that De Gea would already be turning out at the Bernabeu.

Man United ultimately managed to keep hold of the Spain number one before handing him a new long-term contract, but speculation linking Real Madrid with a move for the stopper has surfaced once again, and the Spanish giants are said to be confident of finally completing a deal.

According to The Sun, Real Madrid are prepared to pay £60m to sign the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper, who has been named Man United’s Player of the Year in each of the last three seasons.

However, Man United will reportedly demand that Real Madrid duo Varane and Morata are both included in the deal as Jose Mourinho looks to put together a title-winning team at Old Trafford.

Why Varane, Morata?

Man United are expected to target a new centre-back this summer despite the fact that Marcos Rojo, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are all currently at the club.

Bailly has arguably been Man United’s standout centre-back this season, while Rojo has also impressed after moving into a central position. Smalling and Jones are currently on the sidelines, however, and it is understood that the futures of the England duo are far from certain.

Mourinho is believed to have shared a close relationship with Varane during his time at the Bernabeu, and the Portuguese is said to be confident of convincing the 23-year-old to make the switch to Old Trafford.

Varane has made 31 appearances in all competitions for Real Madrid this season, but the Frenchman has been on the sidelines in recent weeks.

As for Morata, the 24-year-old has netted 12 La Liga goals in just 11 starts this season, whilst he has also netted three times in the Champions League despite only starting one fixture.

Karim Benzema’s presence at the Bernabeu has made it difficult for Morata to gain a regular spot in Zinedine Zidane’s XI, and with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s future at Old Trafford far from certain, it is said that Mourinho has identified Morata as his new centre-forward for the 2017-18 campaign.

Dele Alli delivers strong message after derby triumph, Arsenal fans react

Tottenham Hotspur star Dele Alli attracted the attention of Arsenal supporters when he took to Twitter after playing an influential part in Sunday’s North London derby.

The England international opened the scoring in the 55th minute before Harry Kane converted from the spot after winning a stonewall penalty off Gabriel Paulista.

Arsenal were unable to respond and now they will finish below their rivals in the Premier League table for the first time in 22 years.

Spurs currently have an impressive 17-point lead over their neighbours and they still remain in the hunt for title glory, albeit Chelsea remain favourites as they have a four-point advantage with four games left to play.

After the match, Alli tweeted that Tottenham now ‘own’ North London, but plenty of Arsenal fans disagreed.

It has been a difficult season for the Gunners, and they could struggle to claim a Champions League spot as they are six points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City with five games left to play.

On the bright side, they could still end the season with silverware as they will be vying for their 13th FA Cup when they take on Chelsea at Wembley towards the end of May.

Bilic hints West Ham youngster will get run-out vs Burnley

At first glance, you won’t find a less exciting encounter than Burnley vs West Ham on the final day of the season. Neither side have exactly set the world on fire this term and as they prepare to take each other on at Turf Moor this Sunday, they don’t really have anything to play for.But Hammers gaffer Slaven Bilic has hinted he’ll use the occasion to give one of his youngsters someÂPremier League experience, namely hot prospect Declan Rice, who has captained the U23s to promotion to Division One of PL2 this term and accordingly claimed theÂYoung Player of the Year award at the London Stadium.

That declaration (excuse the pun), will be like music to the ears of West Ham fans. Their club has a long and prestigious history of developing academy talents into top-class stars, but the conveyor belt has slowed down in recent years and due to their inconsistency this season,ÂBilic has had few opportunities to blood any in.

Rice could well be the man to buck that trend, should he produce an impressive performance at Burnley this Sunday.

Everton fans react as £8m Jordan Pickford offer is rejected

According to reports in the Liverpool Echo, Everton are reportedly keen to sign Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford this summer and have already lodged an £8m bid, but it was laughed off by the Black Cats.

Ronald Koeman is looking for a new number one with both Maarten Stekelenburg and Joel Robles failing to impress, but he faces a tough task to get Pickford unless the Toffees are willing to significantly raise their initial offer.

The Mackems – who were relegated to the Championship this season following a disastrous campaign – are demanding £30m for the 23-year-old, who will be in the thinking of England manager Gareth Southgate following a number of fine performances throughout the campaign.

Everton supporters were quick to have their say on the news via social media, with some saying that Pickford isn’t worth anything near £30m, while others want the club to show ambition rather than offering small bids for transfer targets.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Revealed: Majority of Man United fans would back Smalling departure

This week’s arrival of Victor Lindelof could spell the end for another Manchester United player in the form of Chris Smalling.

Indeed, the England international was one of Louis van Gaal’s key players during his two terms at Old Trafford but he slumped down the pecking order last season and The Daily Star claim the Red Devils are now looking to sell for around £15million – with Everton and West Ham amongst the interested parties.

But that could prove to be incredibly short sighted on United’s part. After all, Smalling is a talented and highly physical defender who would undoubtedly strengthen the backlines at West Ham and Everton – two clubs who will be looking to push the Premier League’s top six next season.

With that in mind, we asked United fans earlier this week whether their club should reconsider selling the 6 foot 4 defender but according to our poll, 60% want to see him offloaded this summer.

Whilst that’s bad news for Smalling, it could prove to be great news for Everton or West Ham.

HYS: Should Chelsea cash-in on Izzy Brown?

According to reports from The Telegraph, Huddersfield are in talks with Chelsea over re-signing youngster Izzy Brown, potentially in a permanent deal.

The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season out on loan at the John Smith’s Stadium, contributing four goals to Huddersfield’s successful Championship promotion bid after arriving in January.

David Wagner’s side are now keen on re-signing Brown as they prepare for their first ever Premier League campaign, leaving Chelsea with a huge decision to make on the prodigious attacker’s future.

On the one hand, it’s virtually impossible for youngsters to make the first team grade at Chelsea – suggesting they should sell to the highest bidder. On the other, Brown looks like a real talent, having already picked up 36 caps for England at youth level and impressed for the Terriers.

So, Chelsea fans, is now the time to cash in on Brown, who is valued by Transfermarkt at just £2.13million? Let us know whether your club should sell the youngster by voting in the poll below…

Leeds in battle with Lazio and Valencia to sign Chelsea star Mario Pasalic

According to Gianluci Di Marzio, Leeds are set to battle Lazio and Valencia for the loan-signing of Chelsea star Mario Pasalic.

What’s the Story?

According to reports in Italy, Leeds are ready to battle with some of Europe’s top clubs to bring in Chelsea’s Mario Pasalic, who is valued at £6.80million by transfermarket.

It is thought that the Yorkshire club would be willing to sign the player on-loan for the season but will be faced with competition from Lazio and Valencia, both of whom can offer the 22-year-old top flight football.

However, Milan could also look to bring the player back to the San Siro after a more than successful loan spell last season.

How good was Pasalic last season?

Despite being just 22-years-old, Pasalic demonstrated exactly why Chelsea have held him in such high regard over the last few months. Spending the 2016/17 on-loan at AC Milan, the Croatian featured 26 times in all competitions, scoring 5 goals and providing an assist.

However, it was his exciting style of play that really impressed the Milan fans. Quick, direct and not afraid to take on a more experienced opponent, Pasalic proved that he could cope with football at the highest level.

Would Pasalic be a good fit for Leeds?

To say that this would be the Championship signing of the summer would be no understatement. A player of the calibre of Mario Pasalic would be an undoubted sensation in England’s second tier.

If new boss Thomas Christiansen can pull this deal off, not only will he earn the respect of the Leeds faithful but will also be signing one the brightest young talents in Europe.

Manchester United discussing future deal for Barcelona superstar Neymar

According to Don Balon, (via the Daily Express), Manchester United are in discussion with Neymar regarding a move to Old Trafford in 12 months time.

What’s the Story?

Spanish newspaper Don Balon broke the sensational news on Tuesday morning that Barcelona star Neymar wants to leave the Nou Camp and is supposedly in talks with Manchester United chiefs over a move.

However, no transfer would likely occur until next summer, with the player reportedly keen to give another years’ service to Barcelona to try and claim the domestic crown back from rivals Real Madrid.

Mourinho would be required to match the £200million buyout clause in Neymar’s contract to land the talented Brazilian, despite that fact that Transfermarkt values the player at £88.7million.

How good was Neymar last season?

Superb, if Neymar wasn’t Neymar. Having the title of one of the worlds best players comes with plenty of unwanted baggage. First of all, expectations rise each year meaning that if statistics don’t look as impressive as they have in the past, it may be consider as a mediocre season personally.

With 20 goals and 19 assists in 36 appearances, Neymar has once again proven his worth. However, there were certain spells in the season when the 25-year-old seemed uninterested and frustrated.

Would Neymar be worth the extraordinary fee?

While £200million would blow any previous transfer fee in the footballing world out of the water, there is no doubt that Manchester United could afford that kind of figure.

That kind of astronomical fee would only be considered an acceptable investment if the player you received in return was one of the 5 best on earth. Fortunately for United, Neymar is in that calibre.

Wolfsburg announce interest in signing Manchester United star Anthony Martial

According to German newspaper Kicker (via talkSPORT), Wolfsburg are interested in taking Anthony Martial on a season-long loan from Manchester United.

What’s the Story?

Anthony Martial, who is valued at £26.6million by Transfermarkt, has been attracting the interest of a number of clubs in recent weeks and now, according to Kicker, it seems Wolfsburg have joined the list of suitors.

Roma and Inter Milan are also reportedly interested in the Frenchman, with the latter asking for Martial’s services as part of any deal involving Ivan Perisic heading to Old Trafford.

However, the 21-year-old’s wages are extremely high and the Bundesliga club may struggle to cover the young forwards demands.

Disappointing. Following the 21-year-old’s fantastic first season at Old Trafford, many were predicting great things for the 2016/17 campaign. However, it seems as though the change of management at United may have disrupted the young star, who managed just eight goals in 42 appearances.

Martial looked disenchanted in many of his appearances last season and looked noticeably out of form, despite the club winning a trio of trophies.

Would United let Martial leave?

It would be a surprise to see United let their 21-year-old leave this season, even on loan. Having invested so much into signing Martial from Monaco two years ago, the Red Devils will be reluctant to let the Frenchman go, even if his form has been tremendously inconsistent of late.

However, if Ivan Perisic completes a move to Old Trafford from Inter Milan, Martial could be left with even less playing time, which could spell an end to his career at United.

In Focus: Wilshere transfer potentially great for Aston Villa, but not for man himself

Aston Villa are considering a move for Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, according to The Mirror.

What’s the story?

The long-term future of the 25-year-old has been a talking point throughout the summer considering that he has one year left on his current contract at the Emirates.

Injuries have hampered Wilshere’s career over the years, restricting him to just 10 Premier League starts for the Gunners in the past three seasons.

In the 2016-17 campaign, the midfielder spent a loan spell at Bournemouth and had a decent run, racking up 27 appearances in the top flight, but it ended on a disappointing note when he suffered a leg fracture.

With his chances of regular football at Arsenal this season looking slim, Villa have made a move, according to The Mirror.

Manager Steve Bruce reportedly hopes that the offer of a big contract and bonuses will convince Wilshere to drop into the Championship.

Is this a good move for both parties?

There are various factors to consider. For Villa, signing Wilshere could potentially bolster their chances of promotion significantly.

After picking up just one point from their first two league games this season, bringing in a signing of Wilshere’s stature would boost the mood of the fans.

However, the midfielder’s injury record cannot be ignored, and there is a risk that Villa will pay over the odds for a player that could miss the majority of the season.

From Wilshere’s point of view, he will have one eye on next summer’s World Cup in Russia.

The England international will need to be playing regularly in order to attract Gareth Southgate’s attention, but even if he is out on the field every week, it will be difficult to be selected ahead of players who are performing in the Premier League.
