Manchester United fans react to Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw England call-up

[ad_pod ]

Gareth Southgate has included defender Luke Shaw and forward Marcus Rashford in the England squad for the upcoming Nations League matches, and Manchester United fans are happy two of their better peforming players this season have been called up for international duty.

The Red Devils have had a poor start to the campaign but Rashford and Shaw have been the standout players in a squad that is struggling to get any sort of momentum and rhythm going.

José Mourinho’s men are currently in tenth position in the Premier League, while they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Championship side Derby County last week. United were also held to a 0-0 draw by Valencia in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, meaning they’ve now gone four matches without a win.

The fact that two of their players were named in the England squad has been some sort of a positive for the club’s supporters and they hope the two can continue their fine form on international level.

Here are some of the Twitter reactions by United fans:

Southampton fans react as Sofiane Boufal scores stunning goal for Celta Vigo

[ad_pod ]

Out-on-loan Southampton man Sofiane Boufal scored a stunning solo goal for Celta Vigo during their 2-1 La Liga defeat to Sevilla on Sunday, and Saints fans were quick to react on Twitter.

Just hours after they had been convincingly beaten 3-0 by Chelsea at St Mary’s, the Morocco international made a big impact from the substitutes’ bench for the Spanish outfit, whom he joined on a temporary basis during the summer transfer window having fallen out of favour under Mark Hughes last term following a disagreement between the two.

Much like his brilliant strike against West Bromwich Albion last term, the 25-year-old picked the ball up in his own half, raced forwards beating plenty of opposition players before producing a fine curling finish.

Southampton supporters, 46% of whom who voted on our poll want Hughes to make an unthinkable change to his starting XI, took to social media to give their thoughts on the wonder-goal, and while one said “bring back Boufal now”, another said “I’d be more than happy to see him come back”.

Marcus Rashford may never reach his full potential at Man United

Since England’s World Cup heroics, forward Marcus Rashford has scored three goals in England’s four matches, as he looks in terrific form for The Three Lions.

The 20-year-old has started all four of those games, be it as a striker or slightly wider and has looked remarkably impressive.

However, the better he performs for England, the more that people are going to question why he seems to be out of favour under José Mourhinho at Man United. The player has only started two games for The Red Devils in the Premier League this season, as he has struggled for game time. Even when he does play, he will never feature in his preferred position of striker, rather he is deployed as a winger.

The finger, therefore, has to be pointed at the manager rather than the player, as he has shown that he is still in-form when playing for Gareth Southgate. It’s not as if England’s fixtures have been easy either, with two against Spain and one against World Cup finalists Croatia.

Man United legend Paul Scholes even recently said that even Lionel Messi would not play well under Mourinho at United at the moment, a damning inditement of the manager, but may well be true. Therefore, in order for Rashford to flourish at Old Trafford, Mourinho will have to either go or radically change his approach. If not, the 20-year-old should look elsewhere. Southgate has proven so far this year how to get the best from Rashford, and Mourinho should take some hints.

Revealed: Spurs fans want Eriksen to replace Lamela against Man City despite recent form

Erik Lamela may have stared in recent games for Tottenham Hotspur, but 56% of fans still want the Argentine replaced at the tip of midfield against Manchester City. The current league leaders travel to Wembley for a Monday night affair with Spurs.

The game comes on the back of Tottenham slipping away from progressing out of the Champions League group stage after a huge error by Hugo Lloris saw the keeper sent off and his side let all three points go amiss to a late PSV equaliser.

Back to back defeats could easily raise tensions at Spurs despite edging London rivals West Ham last weekend thanks to a superb performance by Erik Lamela, who scored the only goal of the game as he headed past Lukasz Fabianski on 44 minutes.

At the London Stadium, the 26-year-old attacker played centrally to have a hand in creating and preventing chances for either team, yet the return of Christian Eriksen from one month on the medical table has already seen fans call for a change.

Football FanCast recently ran a poll asking whom Lilywhites fans would start at No.10 against Manchester City on Monday, with a split outcome coming out in favour of the Danish star.

Everton fans want Gomes signed to permanent deal

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Everton fans have been giving their verdict on the first few performances of Andre Gomes, and they’re desperate for the Portuguese international to sign on a permanent basis.

Everton looked to be heading towards a disastrous transfer window this summer, but a late surge of signings showed exactly what Marco Silva has planned.

The Toffees signed three players from Barcelona, and while Yerry Mina has yet to feature, both Gomes and Lucas Digne have made impressive starts.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”326259″ player=”12034″ title=”Liverpool Or Chelsea For The Title Forget it!”]

Gomes has started each of the last two games, and has brought a real calming presence in the middle of the park.

The Toffees have been without a truly gifted technician in the middle for several years, and Gomes looks to be the perfect partner for the tough-tackling Idrissa Gueye.

The 25 year-old has completed 91 per cent of his passes in an Everton shirt so far, and is also averaging two tackles and one interception per game.

He never really got a fair crack at Barcelona, and the Goodison faithful are practically begging the club to splash the cash on a permanent deal.

Tottenham need to offer Malcom the chance to escape Barcelona nightmare

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham have started the domestic season in fine fettle, recording their best ever start to a Premier League season despite signing a grand total of zero players in the summer transfer window.

Mauricio Pochettino has worked wonders so far this season with a small squad. However, with the disappointment regarding the new stadium delay, fans of the north London club could do with a new signing to lift them, with Malcom rumoured to be of interest according to Mundo Deportivo.

What’s the story?

Back in the summer, Roma looked absolute certainties to secure the services of highly rated Bordeaux winger Malcom. They even went as far as announcing that a deal had been agreed with the French side after the Brazilian had scored 12 goals and made 7 more in Ligue 1 last season.

However, at the last minute, Barcelona swooped in and snatched the 21-year-old away from the Italian side’s clutches. With another big-money signing in Ousmane Dembele yet to cement his place in the Blaugrana’s first team himself, eyebrows were raised at where Malcom would fit into Ernesto Valverde’s plans.

As such, the question marks surrounding the transfer have yet to be appeased. The winger is yet to start a game in La Liga for the reigning champions, and has made just a single start in total in the Copa del Rey.

Would he be a good signing for Spurs?

Presently, Tottenham seem well stocked in attacking areas. Lucas Moura, another Brazilian attacker, began the season in blistering form but has tailed off somewhat as the campaign has dragged on, whereas Erik Lamela has opposed that, starting slowly but finding form of late.

One thing that Pochettino’s side do lack, for all their quality, is a natural wide man to stretch the game and make space for the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen to work their magic centrally. Spurs have attempted to rectify this issue by targeting Wilfried Zaha in recent windows, but have been priced out of a move.

Of course, with the debts amassed from the cost of the new stadium, it could be a while before we see Spurs splash huge fees on world class players. However, given his start in Catalonia, Malcom’s stock has undoubtedly dropped; Spurs should take advantage of that, given that the winger is still an extremely talented young footballer.

Everton fans are so right: Theo Walcott seriously needs to up his game, and fast

Everton supporters have been pretty satisfied in recent times after seeing their side pick up a credible draw in the Premier League at the weekend.

Marco Silva’s men went into their clash with unbeaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge having beaten Brighton in their preceding league encounter, and thus full of confidence ahead of their trip to the capital. And the Toffees came away from West London with a hard-earned point following a 0-0 draw with Maurizio Sarri’s Blues, a result which kept the Merseysiders ninth in the Premier League table.

Thus, there have been many satisfied Evertonians up and down the country in recent times, although many took to Twitter prior to the game to slate Silva’s decision to keep faith with Theo Walcott, what with the Englishman not enjoying a particularly great run of form.

And after another testing afternoon against Chelsea on Sunday, those Everton fans are so right to suggest that the £110,000-a-week ace (as per Spotrac) seriously needs to up his game, and fast.

Ultimately, the 29-year-old made the move to Goodison Park back in January of this year after seeing things go stale at Arsenal, what with the England international mustering just six Premier League appearances for the Gunners in the first half of last season.

Yet the winger sought to get his career going again by moving to Everton, and it looked like a very good decision from Walcott given he scored three and laid on three assists in 14 league appearances last term, thus helping Sam Allardyce’s side move away from Premier League danger to the dizzy heights of eighth place.

And he even started this term well under Silva with two goals and an assist in his opening three matches, yet things have gone downhill fast for the ex-Arsenal star given he has since failed to net in the Premier League for the Toffees, nine games on from his goal in their 2-2 draw at Bournemouth.

And with just one assist to his name in that time, Walcott is clearly struggling for form in the final third of the pitch, with the winger perhaps getting away with it somewhat given the fine run of form the Toffees are on, having lost just one of their last six league games.

Nonetheless, with Richarlison leading the line brilliantly and Bernard slowly but surely getting to grips with English football, the 29-year-old is going to come under-threat for his place in the starting eleven – Ademola Lookman and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were both on the bench on Sunday to suggest that they are firmly in Silva’s thinking.

At the moment though, the ball does appear to be in Walcott’s court, and if the Englishman can rediscover his early season form, he’ll surely retain his place in the starting line-up.

But given his struggles in recent times, as evidenced by the frustration among some Everton fans, he needs to up his game quickly to remain a feature in Silva’s starting eleven.

Dominic Solanke could push Aston Villa up the table

Aston Villa fans will be overjoyed after the Villains secured a memorable 3-0 victory away to Derby County at the weekend.

Yannick Bolasie picked out John McGinn who opened the scoring in the 74th minute before Tammy Abraham doubled their advantage just four minutes later. Conor Hourihane made sure of the victory six minutes from time with a wonderful free-kick to secure Villa’s first away win since the opening day of the season. The result leaves Villa firmly in mid-table, four points behind the Rams in the play-off places.

Villa ended Derby’s six-game unbeaten run, and their performance will undoubtedly please Dean Smith. The former Brentford boss will have his first opportunity to strengthen his squad when the transfer window reopens in January and should be on the lookout for recruits to give his side a welcome boost in the New Year.

One man who he should consider signing is Liverpool outcast – Dominic Solanke. Valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, the former England international joined the Reds on a free transfer from Chelsea last summer. Solanke enjoyed a bit-part role under Jurgen Klopp but ended the season with just one Premier League goal. The 21-year-old has since slipped beneath Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi in the pecking order at Anfield and reports suggest Klopp could authorise a loan move in the January transfer window.

The youngster would give Smith another quality option in the attack and allow him to rotate his forwards during the hectic festive period. A tall, powerful forward, Solanke would have no issues adapting to the physicality of the Championship and will be desperate to impress and prove himself to Klopp.

This move would benefit both parties and Villa should make Solanke their priority in January.

West Ham United fan page sparks reaction by describing Liverpool’s Firmino as overrated

[ad_pod ]

Twitter can be a forum for debate and discussion, and more often than not, it is used by football fans for this reason.

On Thursday evening, West Ham United fan account @WestHam_Central tweeted a controversial statement that sparked a reaction from Liverpool fans and supporters of other clubs.

The post described Roberto Firmino as “overrated” despite the fact that he is one of Liverpool’s most important players.

The Brazilian became a key member of Jurgen Klopp’s attacking trio last season following the arrival of Mohamed Salah.

The forward teamed up with the Egyptian and Sadio Mane to form a devastating attack.

During the 2017-18 campaign, Firmino scored 26 goals in all competitions and racking up 16 assists.

This season, though, the forward has struggled to get back to his scintillating best as he has netted four goals in 17 outings.

The tweet from West Ham Central was met with reaction from some Liverpool fans who defended their attacker, while other football supporters agreed with the original message.

Arsenal should battle Spurs for the signature of Allan

[ad_pod ]

According to Calcio Napoli24, Tottenham Hotspur are considering making an offer of €40 million (Approximately £35m) for Napoli midfielder Allan.

What’s the word?

With Mousa Dembele’s current contract set to expire at the end of the season, Spurs will likely soon need a new central midfielder to replace the outgoing Belgian.

27-year-old Allan has been a reliably consistent performer for Napoli since his 2015 arrival, and has grown into one of the finest all-round midfield operators in Serie A. The two-cap Brazil international boasts excellent physical strength and stamina, and is also technically gifted enough to contribute for his team in an attacking sense, as well as being reliably solid defensively.

Which team is the dominant force in London right now? Playmaker FC’s Tom Skinner has a very unpopular opinion on the matter. Check it out in the video below…

If he could be snapped up for a fee in the region of his £36 million Transfermarkt valuation, then Allan would represent an excellent addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad. However, Spurs’ fierce local rivals, Arsenal, would be wise enter the race for the midfielder’s signature too.

The perfect partner for Torreira

Like Spurs, the Gunners are also set to lose a key midfield figure at the end of the season, with Aaron Ramsey expected to depart the Emirates Stadium in the summer.

Allan would be the ideal replacement for the outgoing Welshman as he is well suited to the style of football that Unai Emery is trying to instil in north London. The Brazilian has the energy and defensive awareness to operate a hard-pressing system. His distribution skills, experience, and calmness in possession also make him an ideal foil for 22-year-old Lucas Torreira’s tenacity.

On top of the satisfaction of beating their neighbours to a transfer target, the Gunners could seriously strengthen their midfield contingent ahead of next season with the acquisition of Allan.
