Desde o dia 30 de janeiro, o elenco do Flamengo ganhou a companhia de Julio Cesar. O goleiro, mais do que um reforço para os jogos oficiais, logo tornou-se líder e uma das vozes mais importantes do vestiário. O “DNA rubro-negro” e a carreira vitoriosa o credenciaram para tal posto e o camisa 12, quando assinou contrato de três meses, sabia que sua maior colaboração seria fora de campo.

Diante de um elenco formado por vários jovens revelados nas categorias de base do clube, assim como ele, Julio Cesar destacou a boa experiência que viveu em 2018 e revelou o pedido dos garotos para ele adiar a aposentadoria.

-Desde quando vim para o Flamengo, com o time sem estar precisando de goleiros, sabia que minha participação seria mais fora de campo do que dentro. Durante esses três meses eu pude ajudar com a minha experiência. Tive bons e maus momentos na carreira. Foi uma participação bacana e saio pela porta da frente sabendo que dei o meu melhor. Você se sentir uma pessoa querida e amiga, é o que mais vale. Ver o Vinicius, Paquetá, Jean Lucas, Klebinho e Lincoln pedindo para eu ficar mais tempo foi incrível. Vale mais que título – afirmou.

Não foram apenas os garotos que procuraram Julio Cesar. A direção do clube ofereceu ao goleiro a extensão de contrato, mas o camisa 12 recusou. De acordo com Julio, os problemas físicos foram determinantes para a decisão.

– O Flamengo apresentou uma ideia de extensão de contrato. Mas vim com a ideia fixa. Quero agradecer ao presidente e ao Lomba pela oportunidade. Por problemas físicos escolhi por não continuar. Foi uma escolha que fiz há três meses. Desde o início a situação ficou muito bem definida – explicou Julio.

‘Quando o livro fechar e olhar toda história que construí no futebol, o que mais quero é ter deixado algo de positivo. Saio na rua e algumas pessoas falam que colocaram o nome do filho de Julio Cesar por causa de mim. Isso não tem preço’, declarou.

Apesar de dizer que a aposentadoria foi planejada, Julio Cesar já sabe qual será o “lado ruim” da decisão, mas reforçou o tempo que passará a ter para curtir a família e filhos.

– O lado ruim é você acordar no outro dia, olha para o teto e dizer: “acabou”. Não vai mais ter aquele clima de vestiário, com jogadores. Vai ser um situação complicada desligar de uma hora para outra. A parte boa é ter mais tempo para a família e para os filhos – afirmou o camisa 12 da Gávea.

Críticas da torcida após o empate com o Santa Fe

Sei que o torcedor não está feliz com o empate, mas nós também não estamos felizes. Espero que o torcedor vá nos apoiar. Com o torcedor ao nosso lado, nos tornamos ainda mais fortes. Acho que estão fazendo uma tempestade em um copo de água. Temos muito a melhorar. Mas sabemos que é um grupo difícil. Não é desculpa, mas não vi o Flamengo fazer um péssimo jogo. Tivemos momentos bons e ruins na partida.

Retorno ao Flamengo no futuro

Vou voltar como vice de futebol (gargalhadas). Estou brincado Ricardo (Lomba, VP de futebol, acompanhou a coletiva). Já falei tantas coisas no passado que me arrependo. Aprendi a não falar sobre o futuro. O futuro a Deus pertence, mas tenho outros projetos. Um cargo de diretor hoje é algo que não penso. Se surgir algo, é claro que vou analisar. Mas no momento eu não penso.

Diferenças do clube na primeira e na segunda passagem

O Flamengo, na minha primeira passagem, foi difícil. As coisas eram inflamadas. Difícil treinar e jogar com tranquilidade. Pressão muito grande. Os resultados não condiziam com as equipes formadas. Foram quatro anos que o Flamengo brigava para não ser rebaixado.

Esse Flamengo novo é o Flamengo certo e justo. Mas é claro que futebol é resultado. O clube bem estruturado, que paga em dia e é sério, tem que chegar sempre. Se vai ganhar são outros 500. O Flamengo hoje, ao lado de outros poucos clubes no Brasil, é modelo.

وتحدث جيرو عن اللقاء المقبل في تصريحات نقلتها صحيفة “موندو ديبورتيفو” الكتالونية، وقال: “الأرجنتين أكثر بكثير من ميسي”.

وتابع: “ليو لاعب رائع، علينا أن نبذل قصارى جهدنا من أجل الفوز بتلك المباراة، نحاول منع خطورته، لكن الأرجنتين ليست هو فقط، فهي تمتلك لاعبين جيدين آخرين”.

وانتقل الفرنسي للحديث عن مدرب المغرب، وليد الركراكي، زميله السابق في نادي جرونوبل في عام 2007، وقال: “لقد هنأته، المشوار الذي قام به مع منتخب بلده في كأس العالم لا يصدق”.

وأضاف: “لقد أخبرته أنني أريد رؤيته بعد سنوات عديدة، فهو شخص رائع، يستحق كل الثناء”.

Nathaniel Clyne is interested in signing a new deal and extending his stay at Crystal Palace this summer, according to journalist Tom Barclay.

The Lowdown: Clyne out of contract

The 31-year-old is currently in his second spell at his boyhood club, proving to be a solid squad player under Patrick Vieira this season.

Clyne has made nine Premier League starts in 2021/22 to date, acting as a solid understudy to Joel Ward and putting his experience to good use, arguably becoming first-choice in recent weeks.

The defender’s current deal expires at the end of the season, though, at which point he would be able to leave on a free transfer.

The Latest: Clyne keen on new Palace deal

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Barclay claimed that Clyne wants to extend his stay at Selhurst Park. The journalist said of the Palace defender:

“He suggested he definitely would like a new contract. And there’s a bit of talk about it at the moment; we’ll see what will happen.”

The Verdict: No-brainer for Palace

It makes complete sense for Palace to give Clyne a new contract, with the Englishman proving what a reliable figure he can be throughout this season.

Granted, his very best days may be behind him, but he remains a reliable defender who has averaged 1.5 tackles and 1.5 clearances per match in the current Premier League campaign.

Jurgen Klopp once hailed Clyne as ‘amazing’, which speaks volumes given the calibre of player with whom the Liverpool manager has worked, and at 31, there is no reason why the defender can’t stay at the top level for a few more years yet.

Perto de ser anunciado como novo reforço do Corinthians, o atacante Alex Teixeira está empolgado com a oportunidade de poder voltar a atuar no Brasil, segundo seu empresário, Junior Mendonza. O agente, porém, ressaltou que ainda é preciso esperar a liberação do Jiangsu Suning (CHN). O jogador tem 28 anos e assinará contrato por empréstimo até o fim desta temporada.

– No momento há conversas entre Jiangsu Suning e Corinthians porém para concretização do negócio dependemos da liberação por parte do clube chinês que precisa ainda aceitar a operação – afirmou o empresário.

– O Alex Teixeira está empolgado com a possibilidade de jogar novamente no Brasil, porém também respeitará a decisão do clube detentor de seus direitos federativos, o qual tem contrato vigente – acrescentou.

Teixeira, revelado pelo Vasco, deixou o Brasil em 2010, negociado com o Shakhtar Donetsk, da Ucrânia, onde ficou por seis anos. Desde 2016 no futebol da China, o atleta foi a opção encontrada pelo Corinthians para a lacuna que ficou aberta com a saída de Jô. Júnior Dutra e Kazim não se firmam.

No futebol chinês, Alex Teixeira disputou 70 jogos e marcou 30 gols. Ele teve melhor desempenho em seu ano de chegada, em que disputou 42 jogos e marcou 19 gols. Já no ano passado, Teixeira sofreu com uma suspensão e disputou 28 jogos, marcando 11 gols.

Alex Teixeira será o 11º reforço do Corinthians para a temporada. O clube, que anunciou nesta sexta o lateral-esquerdo Sidcley, já contratou os zagueiros Marllon e Henrique, o lateral-esquerdo Juninho Capixaba, os volante Renê Júnior e Ralf, o meia Mateus Vital, e os atacantes Júnior Dutra, Emerson Sheik e Matheus Matias.

That strange sight was on offer in Port Elizabeth after Chennai Super Kings prevailed over Warriors in a tense league match, paving the way for both teams to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League Twenty20 at the expense of Victoria.Chennai’s chances seemed to have evaporated when they stumbled to 136 after choosing to bat in a must-win match, but on a spin-friendly track their strategy of packing the team with slow bowlers paid off as they tenaciously defended that total to set up an all-IPL semi-final against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Durban.Briefly, midway through the chase, it looked as though an IPL team would break the hearts of the home crowd for the second day in a row but it was the Chennai fans who faced some panicky moments when Justin Kreusch and Mark Boucher revived the Warriors with a 44-run fourth-wicket stand.Two Boucher sixes off Shadab Jakati left Warriors needing a gettable 32 off three overs with seven wickets remaining and two set batsmen at the crease. Chennai’s edginess was shown by Muttiah Muralitharan’s tirade at S Badrinath after a run-out chance was muffled following some kamikaze running between the wickets in the 16th over.R Ashwin, battered in the Super Over against Victoria, then returned to virtually ensure David Hussey’s side will be returning home early. Chennai’s key bowlers, Doug Bollinger and Murali, then held their nerve against Warriors’ non-specialist batsmen to preserve their team’s 100% record of progressing from the league phase of every tournament they have played in so far.Victoria would never have felt more confident of making the semi-finals than when Warriors captain Davy Jacobs was batting in his usual thrill-a-minute style to power the chase of a seemingly inadequate target early on. Jacobs survived in the second over when the ball rolled off his bat onto the stumps and Warriors confidently progressed to 38 for 1 in the Powerplays, but Chennai clawed back after that.Shadab Jakati and Murali choked the runs, before Jacobs fell to a well-judged overhead catch from Michael Hussey at deep midwicket. Three overs later, Suresh Raina’s magic arm earned a wicket with his third delivery to further slow down the home team. In seven overs after the Powerplays, Warriors made only 28 and lost two major wickets, pushing the asking rate to double digits. The game then tilted the Warriors’ way before Ashwin’s intervention proved decisive.Chennai’s bowlers saved the blushes of a highly rated batting unit, which struggled against a disciplined home side. Warriors have five bowlers with international experience in their line-up but it was the sixth, medium-pacer Kreusch, who made the biggest impact. His no-frills wicket-to-wicket bowling fetched him three wickets and ruined the platform Chennai’s openers, Hussey and M Vijay, had constructed.The other impressive Warriors bowler was Johan Botha, one of the tournament’s most economical, who again handcuffed the opposition and dismissed Hussey in the 14th over, one ball after he reached his half-century, to change the course of the innings. From what was a potentially threatening 94 for 2, Chennai could only scrape 20 runs in the next five overs, when they should have been launching an all-out attack.Chennai’s openers had made a rock-solid start, setting up their side for what should have been a far more challenging target. Vijay was the dominant partner in a 63-run stand. Hussey was more circumspect early on, knocking the singles around – his first stroke of aggression as in the fifth over, charging down and lofting Lonwabo Tsotsobe towards long-on. A powerful reverse-sweep for four followed off Nicky Boje, before he started peppering his favourite midwicket region. There were only two dot balls in his final 21 deliveries.His dismissal, however, sandwiching those of Raina and S Badrinath to Kreusch, derailed Chennai. They got going again only in the 19th over, when MS Dhoni clubbed 17 runs off Tsotsobe, including a giant six over midwicket. In a low-scoring encounter, 136 proved enough.The result was a hard pill to swallow for Victoria, who are eliminated despite losing only one match in the tournament.

O Flamengo não vai ter o volante Walace como reforço, pelo menos por agora. Uma última reunião entre seu empresário, Rogério Braun, e a diretoria do Hamburgo (ALE) sacramentou o fim das negociações. A informação, inicialmente, foi publicada pelo Esporte Interativo, e confirmada pela reportagem do LANCE!.

Para liberar o jovem jogador, os alemães gostariam de uma compensação financeira, que chegasse em torno dos R$ 39 milhões, valor pago pelo atleta no ano passado. O valor foi considerado alto pela diretoria rubro-negra.

O Flamengo gostaria de contar com o jogador por empréstimo, inicialmente de 18 meses e depois até o fim da temporada, com um valor dos direitos econômicos fixados. Além disso, os cariocas arcariam com a maior parte dos vencimentos do volante. Porém, mesmo assim, o Hamburgo não aceitou emprestá-lo e vai contar com o atleta até o fim desta edição da Bundesliga, da qual briga diretamente contra o rebaixamento.

Sem Walace, agora a diretoria volta os esforços para buscar um jogador para setor, que considera uma das prioridades. Contudo, jovens como o volante Ronaldo, estão ganhando espaço neste início de temporada e podem ser uma solução caseira para a posição.

Newcastle United have offered Atalanta €30million (£25.1million) for striker Duvan Zapata, according to Duncan Castles for The Daily Record. 

The lowdown

Newcastle have already signed one striker this month in the form of Chris Wood. They activated the £25million release clause in the New Zealand frontman’s Burnley contract.

But it seems that Eddie Howe wants even more firepower at his disposal, with Zapata in the club’s sights as he enters the final 18 months of his contract in Bergamo.

Of course, Callum Wilson is out for the foreseeable future with a calf injury, and the Magpies will need all the help they can get in front of goal, having scored just 20 times in 20 top flight matches this term.

The report states that, while Atalanta are willing to sell, they want another €15million (or £12.5million) on top of Newcastle’s original offer.

Encouragingly though, Zapata is thought to be ‘open’ to joining Newcastle if a fee can be agreed.

Newcastle’s top target for the striker position is SL Benfica’s Darwin Nunez, but the Primeira Liga outfit are demanding just over £50million. ‘Sources close to the negotiations’ say Zapata is being lined up as an alternative.

He’s one of a number of ‘high-value’ targets Newcastle are working on.

The verdict

Zapata’s record is excellent. In 152 appearances for Atalanta, he’s been directly involved in 116 goals (scoring 78 and setting up 38). He’s on 12 goals and seven assists for the 21/22 season so far.

His ‘quite incredible’ performances under Gian Piero Gasperini have, in the words of football journalist Maxi Angelo, made him ‘one of the most notorious strikers in Europe’, and at 6 foot 2 with tremendous physical strength it’s not hard to see him adjusting to life in the Premier League.

If he’s willing to trade Europa League football and a Serie A top-four battle for a relegation scrap, it suggests he’s certainly up for the fight.

But there is a question mark – do Newcastle really another striker approaching their twilight years? They’ve paid a sizeable fee for Wood, and Wilson is 29, while Wood and Zapata are both 30. From that point of view, you could also ask whether this is sensible squad-building.

Having sacked manager Lee Johnson this week after a humiliating 6-0 defeat at Bolton, Sunderland fans were looking for a reaction as their side hosted bottom club Doncaster Rovers in today’s League One clash.

The Black Cats are still in the hunt for automatic promotion and would’ve fancied their chances against lowly Rovers, despite being under the interim charge of Mike Dodds and going into the match off the back of a thrashing in Lancashire.

However, the Wearside club’s predicament worsened as they lost 2-1 to the Yorkshire outfit, thus loosening their grip on the automatic promotion places.

It was a poor performance from all involved for Sunderland, but midfielder Elliot Embleton was particularly disappointing.

According to SofaScore, the 22-year-old failed to produce a single key pass or complete either a cross or a long ball, whilst losing 86% of his duels. Moreover, the attacking midfielder made 44 touches whilst losing possession on 19 occasions, an average of losing the ball once every 2.3 touches.

There was little attacking output from any of Sunderland’s forwards, with veteran striker Jermain Defoe making his second Black Cats debut as he came on in the 72nd minute in place of Embleton.

The £5.3k-per week 22-year-old managed just one shot (which hit the woodwork) whilst failing to contribute in helping to defend against Doncaster’s goals, offering no tackles, interceptions, blocks or clearances.

Embleton, a former youth player at the Stadium of Light, has been a regular for the Black Cats this season after returning from his loan spell at Blackpool last term.

The 22-year-old has made 30 appearances in all competitions in the current campaign, scoring four goals and contributing five assists, and he is an integral part of the Sunderland setup.

However, with a new manager set to be appointed in the coming days (at least fans will hope that’s the case), the Englishman’s efforts over the course of the season so far could count for little, and the midfielder will have to prove himself to his new boss, whoever that may be. Performances like his one today won’t support his case of being in the starting XI going forward, and he may well have put a significant dent in Sunderland’s promotion hopes with this insipid display.

Aston Villa captain Tyrone Mings was one of hundreds to react to news of Emiliano Martinez’s new contract.

The Lowdown: 2027

Martinez, who has made 58 appearances for Villa since joining from Arsenal in 2020, keeping 20 clean sheets, has extended his Villa Park stay until 2027.

Villa confirmed the ‘surprise’ news less than 24 hours on from Kortney Hause’s new deal, with Steven Gerrard and Johan Lange busy penning key players to extended deals while also sealing new signings.

The Argentine has missed just one Premier League game all season, and Mings was quick to react to the update on social media.

Villa shared the news regarding Martinez on their official Twitter page, with Mings quickly quote tweeting the post to share his thoughts.

The centre-back shared a video clip from a news broadcast in which a woman says: ‘You’re joking, not another one?’, seemingly in reference to a second player penning terms in a matter of days.

The Verdict: Brilliant news

Martinez was briefly linked with a move to Tottenham ahead of the January window, however, you’d like to think he won’t be going anywhere for the foreseeable future.

Jed Steer and new signing Robin Olsen will serve as back up to the South American, but Martinez extending his stay can only be viewed as excellent news due to his reliability in goal.

The shot-stopper will be 34 years of age in 2027 when his Villa new contract comes to an end, so between now and then, Martinez could establish himself as a Villa legend if he continues to impress in the Midlands and may now be targeting 100 clean sheets.
