Tottenham Hotspur: Fans blast Danny Rose’s latest comments

Tottenham defender Danny Rose has once again been talking openly about the return of the Premier League, according to Alasdair Gold via football.london.

Rose appeared as a guest on the latest episode of The Lockdown Tactics podcast hosted by West Ham United’s Robert Snodgrass and former Rangers star Kris Boyd, and went on to talk about his outburst on his reluctance to return to training, his relationships with managers, and the public’s reaction to his honesty about his mental health struggles.

Speaking to the two players, the Newcastle loanee said “just off the fact that people are suggesting we should go back to football, like we’re guinea pigs or lab rats.”

“We’re going to experiment this phase and see if it works or not. I can just imagine people at home saying ‘well they earn that amount of money so they should be going back’.”

“For stuff like that I think is it worth the hassle? I could be potentially risking my health for people’s entertainment and that’s not something I want to be involved in if I’m honest.”

The 29-year-old recently made the headlines for slamming the Premier League’s ‘Project Restart’ plans in a foul-mouthed tirade on Instagram.

Jose Mourinho has indicated the England international isn’t a part of his plans for the Lillywhites and he moved to Newcastle United on a short-term loan in January.

Magpies boss Steve Bruce wants him to stay at St James’ Park, and, as his contract is likely to expire next season, it appears the left-back could finally leaving North London permanently in the summer. His current market value is estimated at £14m via Transfermarkt.

Rose has made 5 appearances in the Premier League for Bruce’s Black and Whites, making 1.4 tackles per game, attempting 1.2 clearances on average, with a pass success rating of 77.7% (WhoScored).

Unsurprisingly, lots of Spurs fans blasted his latest comments on social media, with one supporter sarcastically branding him a “victim,” and another adding he is “overrated.”

Liverpool target Jadon Sancho fails to live up to the hype for England

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

England secured qualification for Euro 2020 on Thursday as they pushed Montenegro aside.

It was an emphatic victory for the Three Lions, who prevailed 7-0. Harry Kane, the captain, scored a hat-trick, whilst Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Marcus Rashford, Tammy Abraham and an own goal completed the rout.

This was the youngest England side in 60 years, with Harry Maguire, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kane the oldest heads in the starting XI at just 26. On the other end of the spectrum was Jadon Sancho, who will only turn 20 in March.

The Borussia Dortmund star has been linked with a whole host of clubs in recent weeks, including Liverpool, and a price of £100m was mentioned by The Daily Mirror in regards to what fee the German side are looking for. Even though he managed to grab himself an assist against the Balkan nation at Wembley, it was an overall disappointing display from the promising youngster.

There were a couple of small positives. The former Manchester City man did manage to create three chances for his teammates, which only Ben Chilwell beat, but there were plenty of other areas where he was left wanting.

Even against a side that was clearly a level below Gareth Southgate’s side, the winger only managed to complete two of the five dribbles he attempted, whilst he also lost possession a game-high 22 times. The teenager also led the way with the most fouls – two – and won a paltry three out of 11 duels, which works out at just 27%.

His performances in the Bundesliga – he managed a league-high 17 assists last term, as well as 12 goals – have led to intense speculation surrounding his future. According to The Daily Mail, he has decided he wants to quit Die Schwarzgelben, and Liverpool have been linked with a move for him.

Whilst the talent is clearly present, there will have been too many sloppy moments in this game for Jurgen Klopp’s liking.

He is still learning his craft of course – he is, after all, still 19 – but the Reds cannot afford to carry players who are so careless in possession at times. He will get better, but the German boss will be wanting to see a lot more from the prodigy before committing to such a big investment in the future.

Man Utd prospect Brandon Williams proving he can be an Old Trafford stalwart

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Having seen Luke Shaw be a part of the side that trounced Chelsea 4-0 in Manchester United’s opening Premier League game of the season, Brandon Williams may have been forgiven for feeling his time in the first-team squad would have been limited.

But Shaw’s injury – surprise, surprise – has given the Red Devils academy prospect the chance to shine in recent weeks, and boy has he taken it. The 19-year-old played the full 90 minutes against both AZ Alkmaar and Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League, picking up an assist, and completed the full game in the Carabao Cup victory over Chelsea.

And on Sunday afternoon, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave Williams his first start in the Premier League, and in a commanding team performance, the teenager did not disappoint at all.

Lining up at left-back instead of the suspended Ashley Young, the starlet showed United exactly what they stand to benefit from over the coming years. The 19-year-old blended his attacking and defensive duties superbly, and his extra pace and quality on the ball compared to some of the Red Devils’ other options really marks him out.

Coming up against Brighton winger Steven Alzate, Williams didn’t give his opponent anything over the course of the match. He won five duels and made four tackles – with the latter stat putting him only behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka who had six from the opposite flank. But quite crucially for the Red Devils, the youngster showed he can contribute significantly going forward.

His 55 touches of the ball was two more than Marcus Rashford, and seven more than Daniel James, and showed just how confident the side were in getting him involved in the game. Williams provided one key pass and completed one dribble too as he sought to take the game to the Seagulls, and was denied opening his goal-scoring account for the senior side by a stop from Mathew Ryan in the Brighton goal.

It was therefore unsurprising to hear Solskjaer insist the “excellent” teenager is “making it hard to leave him out”. At such a young age, Williams has the chance to become a true Old Trafford stalwart.

Everton fans react to club post looking ahead to Tottenham Hotspur clash

A selection of Everton fans have been responding to a post on the Toffees’ Fan Services Twitter account, after the Goodison Park natives announced that all tickets for Tottenham Hotspur’s visit to Merseyside next month have sold out.

Spurs travel to Goodison Park at the start of November for a Sunday evening showdown under the lights, but some of the fans responding to the post announcing all 40,000 tickets being sold are unsure of whether Everton deserve to have that many supporters in attendance.

The Toffees are without a win in their last four Premier League games, with their last top-flight victory coming against Wolverhampton Wanderers on September 1.

Since then, Marco Silva’s men have conceded nine goals in the league, while achieving their only win during that run against Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup.

Recent results have left the Blues lingering low down the league standings, and pressure is thought to be mounting on Marco Silva’s position, although the Portuguese is expected to be given a chance to turn things around, per Sky Sports.

His first chance to do so will come against West Ham United this weekend, before facing Brighton & Hove Albion in their last league fixture before the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs in November.

Winning against the Irons or Seagulls would go a long way in Silva getting the supporters back on side, as many appear to be growing disillusioned.

Here are some of the reactions shared…

Wolves’ Ryan Bennett hilariously livid after seeing his FIFA 20 rating

FIFA ratings seem to mean quite a lot to footballers these days. The EA Sports video game has caused a lot of controversy amongst Premier League stars as in recent weeks we’ve seen James Maddison, Rhian Brewster and Richarlison all have a bit of a moan about their in-game stats. Are Wolves set to become the new Man City? Find out why in the video below…Indeed, these stars took to social media to complain about their FIFA ratings, but Ryan Bennett took things one step further after seeing his Ultimate Team card.

Bennett has been given a 73 rating on this year’s edition of the game, and it’s quite easy to see that he’s far from happy about it – much to the amusement of anybody who watches the video above.

The Wolves defender was filled with rage when he saw the rating, so much so that he attacked the cardboard cutout of his card.

Perhaps EA should make his aggression stat a bit higher after seeing this video, which in turn would bump his rating up a few more points.

Arsenal’s Nicolas Pepe enjoys an excellent showing against Aston Villa

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Arsenal and Aston Villa produced a thrilling encounter at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

For much of the game, it looked as though the Gunners would come away with nothing as the Villans twice took the lead, first through John McGinn and then Wesley Moraes.

However, despite being reduced to ten men after Ainsley Maitland-Niles was sent off for two bookable offences, the Gunners put in a gutsy second-half display to come away with all three points thanks to a 3-2 victory.

It was a big day for Nicolas Pepe, in particular. The Ivory Coast international has endured a slow start to the season, but he finally got his first goal for the club against the promoted side, albeit from the penalty spot. Nevertheless, his display was full of attacking threat.

The 24-year-old led the way in so many of the offensive statistics for Unai Emery’s side. He registered the joint-most shots on target – two, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hitting the same number – and he also had the most successful dribbles, with three. None of his teammates were able to match the four key passes he registered, either, showing that his vision was on point.

In general, his passing was impressive. He had an accuracy of 91.4%, and also provided three accurate crosses. Once again, that was the most on his team, and indeed across both sides.

It was important to note that Pepe was back in his favoured position on the right-wing for this match. Last weekend, against Watford, Emery had decided to play him up front alongside Aubameyang.

While he was not necessarily poor against the Hornets, he was not as effective alongside the Gabon international. Here against Dean Smith’s side, though, he was able to display the full array of weapons he has at his disposal.

The Emirates faithful will be hoping that their team can do it the easier way in future. With Pepe beginning to hit his stride in England, the chances of that happening will only increase.

West Brom’s Nathan Ferguson reportedly close to new deal

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to Express & Star, contract talks between West Brom and defender Nathan Ferguson are progressing.

What’s the word?

West Brom have started the season like a house on fire, going unbeaten in their eight matches which has seen them rise to fourth in the table – just one point off league leaders Leeds United and Swansea City.

Slaven Bilic has given some of the club’s promising youngsters the chance to feature this season with Kyle Edwards and Ferguson both playing in seven matches each.

The performances of the versatile 18-year-old, in particular, have stood out having picked up the Man of the Match award in his senior debut live in front of the TV cameras.

Ferguson has since attracted the interest from the top-flight as The Sun on Sunday (22/09, p. 61) suggest that Crystal Palace have been lurking around the Baggies’ young prospect.

The Eagles have a clear void at right-back after the £50m departure of Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United in the summer and they weren’t able to find a replacement for him either meaning Joel Ward is their only option in that role.

Though, this week further reports have claimed that Ferguson is close to agreeing to a new long-term deal to remain at the Hawthorns which would be a massive boost towards their intentions of returning to the promised land.

Bilic’s influence

It may also be a sign of the impact their Croatian has had in the west Midlands.

Winger Matty Phillips has already signed a three-year contract extension this season, citing Bilic as the key reason why, so it isn’t out of the realms of possibility to suggest that the same is happening here, especially considering the Croat gave Ferguson his debut.

The 18-year-old may well have ambitions to play in the Premier League but the Baggies will be hoping they can achieve that in the years to come.

After all, it’s something that’s been touched on by the club.

Bilic signed a two-year deal when taking over as Albion boss in the summer, and that’s the timeframe sporting and technical director Luke Dowling has put on their return to the top-flight.

Therefore, it wouldn’t be a coincidence to see Ferguson potentially extend his time at the Hawthorns until at least the end of next season. He’s already flourishing under Albion’s new coach.

Birmingham’s Jude Bellingham posts on Instagram after winning individual accolade

[ad_pod ]

England’s fantastic record at youth level continued on Tuesday evening as their U17 side won their second consecutive Syrenka Cup.

We’ve seen the U17 side have a lot of success in recent years – they won the World Cup back in 2017.

Since then, that crop of players have become stars in their own rights with the likes of Jadon Sancho, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Phil Foden becoming huge names.

The pick of the bunch from this latest crop of youngsters is seemingly Jude Bellingham, as he won the Player of the Tournament at the Syrenka Cup.

The 16-year-old took to Instagram after he was given the accolade.

Birmingham City fans have known for a while that he’s a quality young talent, but this latest award gives an insight into just how much potential he has.

While the other players in the U17 squad aren’t global stars yet, they have still proven themselves talented enough to be picked as the best English players at that age, and Bellingham has been selected as the cream of the crop.

Leeds confirm Eddie Nketiah loan as Patrick Bamford’s burden is lifted

[ad_pod ]

Football FanCast’s News articles summarise the biggest stories in world football, based on information from other sources.

Leeds confirmed their second loan deal of deadline day as the transfer ticker moved into its final hour of activity.

The deal they concluded was that of Eddie Nketiah, a move that as the day went on looked more and more likely to happen after a report from David Ornstein claimed he was on his way to the club to complete a transfer on Thursday morning.

The Whites were looking to wrap up a temporary move for the 20-year-old earlier in the week, as Victor Orta’s close ties with Unai Emery were disclosed.

Bristol City were also in the race for his signature but Ornstein revealed that discussions between Orta and the striker managed to convince him to move to Yorkshire for the season.

Nketiah has put pen to paper on a season-long loan agreement and will now embark on his first move away from the Gunners after impressing during a pre-season in which he scored against Bayern Munich and Fiorentina.

Leeds also beat Swansea in order to land Nketiah for the entirety of the campaign.

The verdict

The fact Leeds were able to beat various suitors to his signature says something about the size of the club but at last, the Whites have finally added a new striker to their ranks.

After Kemar Roofe was injured Leeds were going to be left with just Patrick Bamford in attack for around a month.

However, his permanent move to Anderlecht meant they were left facing an even larger period with just one main attacker.

Nketiah’s arrival, therefore, should help offer them greater support, thus boosting Leeds’ promotion hopes significantly.

He hasn’t played in the division before but did score twice against Norwich in the Carabao Cup in 2017/18.
