Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 58 saw Somerset to a thrilling five-wicket win over Northants with one ball to spare at Taunton. Buttler, overlooked for England’s latest one-day international squad, produced two scooped boundaries off the last two balls of the penultimate over to reach a brilliant half-century off 36 balls.Northants had posted 137 for 5 after winning the toss, Cameron White hitting 47 not out and David Willey an unbeaten 30 as George Dockrell was the pick of the Somerset bowlers with 2 for 17. The visitors defended the total tenaciously, with James Middlebrook and Jack Brooks taking two wickets each but could not contain Buttler, who received valuable support from Arul Suppiah at the death.The result gave the hosts five points from their first three Midlands/Wales/West Group games and they look a good bet for another strong challenge in the competition. Even without overseas recruits Richard Levi and Albie Morkel, back home representing South Africa in a T20 series with Zimbabwe, Somerset were impressive, particularly in the field.They were rewarded for their decision to use spin in the opening power play. Dockrell was introduced for the third over and soon had Kyle Coetzer caught at cover.That encouraged skipper Alfonso Thomas to employ Suppiah’s left-arm spin and he quickly accepted a return catch off Rob Newton to make it 24 for 2. There was then an all-Irish wicket as Niall O’Brien was caught by brother Kevin attempting to reverse sweep Dockrell.It was 75 for 4 when Alex Wakely edged a catch behind off legspinner Max Waller and 85 for 5 when the out-of-touch Con de Lange was caught at long-on off Kevin O’Brien’s first delivery. White and Willey were forced to exercise some caution and, while White did his best to bolster the innings, he was only able to find the boundary three times.Somerset almost misjudged the pace of their reply and looked in trouble, when 29 were needed off the last three overs, but that presented no problem to the hugely talented Buttler.

وقال أوسيمين في تصريحات نشرتها صحيفة “ذا صن” الإنجليزية: “أعتقد أن اللعب في واحدة من أفضل خمس بطولات دوري في العالم (الدوري الإيطالي) هو شعور رائع بالنسبة لي”.

وأضاف: “يعتبر الكثير من الناس في جميع أنحاء العالم أن الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز هو الأفضل والأقوى، لكنني الآن في واحدة من أفضل الدوريات في العالم”.

وواصل: “أنا أعمل بجد للتأكد من أنني أحقق حلمي باللعب في الدوري الإنجليزي يومًا ما، ولكن كما قلت، إنها عملية وأريد فقط الحفاظ على هذا الزخم والاستمرار في الأداء بشكل جيد”.

Por outro lado, Pedro Henrique e Roger iniciaram nesta quinta trabalhos de transição física no campo. O zagueiro, que tinha lesão na coxa esquerda, e o atacante, com entorse no tornozelo esquerdo, estão recuperados. Contudo, ainda não ficarão à disposição para o jogo contra o Vasco, neste domingo.

O volante Ralf novamente fez trabalhos de transição física, assim como já havia acontecido nos últimos dias. Ele está recuperado, mas a comissão técnica adota cautela por ter sido lesão na panturrilha esquerda (um músculo mais complicado de tratar).

O volante Thiaguinho, por sua vez, está recuperado de dores no ombro e atuou no segundo tempo do jogo-treino contra a Inter de Limeira. A atividade terminou empatada sem gols.

O departamento médico do Corinthians ainda tem Mantuan, que deve ficar mais duas semanas em tratamento de lesão na coxa esquerda, e Renê Júnior, que vai operar o joelho direito na próxima semana e só voltará a atuar em 2019.

Guerrero foi pego no exame anti-doping com benzoilecgonina, substância que aparece no chá de coca, em uma partida das Eliminatórias. O atacante foi suspenso por um ano, mas conseguiu reduzir a pena para seis meses. Entretanto, o TAS decidiu ampliar a punição para 14 meses.

Nesse período afastado, Guerrero teve que assistir a seleção peruana conquistar a classificação para a Copa do Mundo na repescagem, ao bater a Nova Zelândia.

Durante a análise do processo que ampliou a pena para 14 meses, Guerrero voltou a atuar pelo Flamengo, pois cumpriu os seis meses de suspensão e até marcou um gol, em duas partidas.

Após apelar para todos os recursos, Guerrero conseguiu, nesta semana, a liberação para atuar na Copa do Mundo. A justiça autorizou que o atacante cumpra a pena depois do Mundial.

Tottenham Hotspur left-back Ryan Sessegnon doesn’t deserve to be handed a new contract at the club, according to Lilywhite Rose insider John Wenham.

The Lowdown: Conte plots new deal

The 21-year-old first joined Spurs in a £25m move from Fulham in 2019, but has only made a total of 29 appearances in all competitions during that time.

Just last week however, a source from N17 revealed to Football Insider that the Premier League giants have reportedly opened talks with Sessegnon over a new deal at the request of Antonio Conte.

The Italian is apparently now personally making it clear to the hierarchy that he sees the youngster as a “huge” talent.

The Latest: A waste of money?

It would seem, however, that Wenham has a very different opinion of the defender.

When asked for his view on this contract update, the insider was baffled by Conte’s call, telling Football Insider: “Sessegnon, for £30million or whatever it was, what have we seen?

“I have to be realistic in my commentary, there just isn’t anything there. I get there are a lot of reasons to like him on paper.

“He’s a young English talent who had a great season for Fulham a few years ago. What have Tottenham seen?

“I think the injuries he has had might have cost him the ability to take players on, he just doesn’t do it anymore.

“I appreciate the injury side of things but that’s football. Now we are hearing he’s getting a new deal.

“I really don’t get that. What has he done to deserve that? Am I missing something? He’s already got a deal until 2024.

“Is it because he’s homegrown and we spent a lot of money on him? I really don’t understand that decision.”

The Verdict: Limited opportunities

Despite Conte claiming that he’s a big fan of the England U21 ace, Sessegnon has only been given 705 minutes of game time in the top-flight under the Italian boss this term, with two of his outings coming from the bench.

Former Spurs manager Jose Mourinho previously hailed the ex-Fulham prospect a “fantastic” player during his time in charge, but he has clearly fallen down the pecking order since his departure and simply cannot stay fit long enough to become a serious fixture in the XI.

A move away from north London could prove to be the best option for Sessegnon at this moment in time, and time will tell if Spurs heed Wenham’s warnings.

In other news… a journalist has reacted to Spurs’ interest in a ‘spectacular’ transfer target.

The team’s medical staff said it was too early to determine the seriousness of the injury.Bennett, who is making his debut, impressed with his pace on the first morning, regularly delivering at speeds around 140kmh. He had figures of 0 for 47 in 15 overs at the end of the day.New Zealand used six bowlers as India piled up 329 for 3 on Thursday and the loss of Bennett means they will have only one fast bowler – Chris Martin – and two other specialist spinners – Daniel Vettori and Jeetan Patel – at their disposal on the second day. Their part-time options are medium-pacer Jesse Ryder and offspinner Kane Williamson.

Newcastle and Arsenal have joined the race to sign Torino’s Gleison Bremer.

The Lowdown: Bremer profiled

Bremer is a Brazilian centre-back who has been with the Italian side since 2018. He has made 107 appearances for the club, scoring 13 times and registering five assists. Bremer, labelled as an ’emerging superstar’ by Serie A journalist Rajath Kumar, has even captained Torino on several occasions this season and has two years remaining on his deal.

The 25-year-old shares the same agent as January signings Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood, and it looks as if the Magpies have joined the race for the defender’s services.

The Latest: Newcastle interest

Sports Witness relayed an update from Gazzetta dello Sport regarding Bremer on Saturday.

They claimed that both Newcastle and Arsenal are the latest sides to show an interest in the defender who ‘everyone wants’, with his valuation now rising dramatically.

The Verdict: Shrewd signing?

Eddie Howe has five senior centre-backs to choose from at this moment in time, one of which is Fabian Schar, who is out of contract in the summer.

Bremer appears to be the type of player Newcastle could attract to the club, with Torino not in or challenging for any European competition.

However, it does look as if several clubs who are keen will be able to offer that luxury over the summer, possibly making it difficult for Amanda Staveley and co to get a deal over the line.

Staveley would have already spoken to Bremer’s agency in 2022 following deals for Trippier and Wood, so if an agreement can be reached with Torino, personal terms could be fairly straightforward.
