£72 million Chelsea ace ready to take wage cut so he can join Real Madrid

A member of Enzo Maresca's squad has set his sights on joining Real Madrid from Chelsea, and it is believed he's desperate to make the transfer happen.

Players who could still be sold by Chelsea before August 30

Thiago Silva, Hakim Ziyech, Lewis Hall, Omari Hutchinson, Michael Golding and Ian Maatsen have all left Chelsea already, bringing in around £89 million and helping to balance the books after a fairly active first half of the summer window.

Deals for Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Omari Kellyman, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Estevao Willian and Renato Veiga have cost Todd Boehly around £93 million, but Chelsea's aforementioned sales have allowed the club to register a net spend of just £4 million so far.

With Profit and Sustainability rules at the forefront of their thinking, the Blues have operated cleverly in this transfer market, so much so that they seemingly have the licence to bring in a few more key additions.

Maresca is said to have made clear he wants a new forward at Chelsea to compete with Nicolas Jackson next season, while other reports suggest that Boehly could bring in another centre-back after Tosin.

As deadline day approaches on August 30, it's set to be another interesting few weeks at Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea are far from done in terms of clearing the deadwood. Indeed, Romelu Lukaku, Armando Broja, Malang Sarr, Trevoh Chalobah, Lesley Ugochukwu, Carney Chukwuemeka, Ben Chilwell, Mykhailo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling are players who could still be sold by Chelsea in the coming month and a half.

Co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley will be especially eager to get Lukaku's £325,000-per-week wages off the books, amid rumoured interest from the likes of AC Milan and Napoli in Serie A.

Another high-earner who set Chelsea back dearly when he signed is goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. The 29-year-old became the most expensive shot-stopper of all time when he sealed a £72 million move from Athletic Bilbao in 2018, and he takes home around £150,000-per-week in west London.

The Spaniard spent last season on loan at the Bernabeu, with recent reports claiming Kepa is very keen to quit Chelsea and move on this summer.

Kepa ready to take pay cut so he can join Real Madrid from Chelsea

Spanish news source AS have another update on the keeper's future this week. They claim that Kepa is desperate to join Real Madrid from Chelsea and is even willing to take a pay cut so it can happen. Both Chelsea and Kepa are in agreement that it is time for him to go, according to AS, and the former La Liga star is very eager to link back up with Carlo Ancelotti.

Kepa also has held talks with Al-Ittihad, but the Saudi Pro League side had an initial bid turned down from Chelsea (The Athletic), so the door is still open for Real to re-sign him – depending on what happens with Andriy Lunin and his contract situation.

Arsenal fans can breathe a sigh of relief as their captain has confirmed that he will not feature for the Norway national team in their upcoming Nations League matches against Slovenia and Kazakhstan. Odegaard made the Gunners' starting lineup for the first time since August on Sunday and provided the assist for Gabriel Martinelli's goal in the club's 1-1 draw against Chelsea in the Premier League.

After the Stamford Bridge clash, the former Real Madrid midfielder travelled to join up with his Norway colleagues. However, after an assessment of his condition by the Norway national team medical staff, it has been decided that Odegaard will be rested for the matches to complete his full rehab.

WHAT MARTIN ODEGAARD SAID

Speaking to reporters, the 25-year-old said: "After discussions with the medical staff at the national team, we have unfortunately come to the conclusion that the situation is not good enough to play these games.

"I’ve been through a long training period and when you haven’t practised football in the last nine weeks, it’s natural not to be 100 percent yet. I need to listen to my body, complete this rehab process and get my foot back in good shape."

He added: "The hope has always been to be able to play the national matches, and if I hadn’t played the match on Sunday, it would have been out of the question to participate for Norway anyway. But it’s a bad feeling to lose these games, I love playing for Norway and with this team. But I have great faith in the boys and wish them the best of luck – there are still good opportunities to win the group."

Sky Sports: Newcastle back in to sign £35m player approved by Paul Mitchell

With their FFP worries now firmly behind them, Newcastle United are set to enter the transfer market this summer in pursuit of new players to bolster Eddie Howe's defensive unit.

Newcastle need defenders this summer

If the Magpies' early activity in the transfer market is anything to go off, the club are serious about solidifying their backline going into the next Premier League campaign.

Top target: Newcastle want title-winning 52 y/o if Howe quits for England

Pep Guardiola thinks he’s “excellent”.

ByHenry Jackson Jul 21, 2024

The first name through the door at St James' Park was Llloyd Kelly who arrived on Tyneside in a free transfer after his contract with Bournemouth expired last month. Penning a five-year deal with the Toon, Kelly will be a versatile asset to Howe's side owing to his ability to play as either a central defender or a left back.

Newcastle have also agreed deals to bring two new goalkeepers to the club in the form of John Ruddy and Odysseas Vlachodimos. Whilst the former is unlikely to be starting many games for the Toon, the latter arrives from fellow top flight side Nottingham Forest and could provide competition to current number-one Nick Pope.

Despite already making a number of signings in this area of the pitch, the Magpies are still in the market for new defenders with AC Milan's Fikayo Tomori the name most commonly touted for a move to St James' Park. Reports late last month suggested that the Toon had been in contact with the Rossoneri about the former Chelsea man who could be available for around £40million this summer.

With Newcastle still eyeing moves for defensive stars, it now appears that the club have come back in for one of their former targets.

Newcastle return heavily for Malick Thiaw

As relayed by NUFC blog, Sky Sports Italy are claiming that Newcastle have returned heavily for AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw. Reports from earlier this month stated that the Toon had made the first move to sign the 22-year-old during the transfer window. This new development suggests that the Magpies may have upped their interest in the player and it could be down to the man now at the helm of the club's transfer activities.

Malick Thiaw

The report claims that the German is well-liked by Paul Mitchell who recently left AS Monaco to become the Toon's new Sporting Director and has approved a potential deal. Although AC Milan are yet to receive an official offer from Newcastle it is stated that the Magpies' new transfer chief has given his approval to bring the player to St James' Park.

With a figure between £25million and £35million reportedly needed to tempt Thiaw away from the San Siro, Mitchell's first big task in his new role may be to negotiate a good deal for the player.

Malick Thiaw for AC Milan.

After making 30 appearances in all competitions for AC Milan last season, there is no doubt that Thiaw is a player who could be able to adjust to life in the Premier League with relative ease and play a part in Howe's side next season, making this one to watch once more.

Abdur Razzak to join BCB's selection panel

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has named left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak as the third senior selector, to join former captains Minhajul Abedin, the panel chief, and Habibul Bashar. Razzak, who played 200 international matches between 2004 and 2018 and, at 38, continues to be an active cricketer, will have to retire from the game to take up the new job.”My playing experience will certainly be valuable in this regard,” Razzak told ESPNcricinfo. “I used to play cricket, and now I have to help build the national team. I have been captaining in domestic cricket for a long time and I have often helped form teams. It has usually gone well. But the stakes are higher here, and the expectations are more. But still, I believe I can manage it.”I am pretty sure I have to (retire). I haven’t mentioned it yet since I am awaiting the appointment letter but certainly when I join this new job, I have to quit (playing).”Razzak was the first Bangladesh bowler to pick up 200 ODI wickets – he has 207 from 153 outings – and, despite not being a frontline batsman, is the holder of the record for the fastest half-century by a Bangladeshi in ODI cricket – 21 balls, joint with Mohammad Ashraful. He also made a comeback in the Test team against Sri Lanka in 2018 after a four-year break, which turned out to be his last international outing.Over the years, he has been a domestic giant, with 137 first-class appearances. He has taken 634 wickets in them with 41 five-fors. He is also the first Bangladeshi bowler to bag 600 first-class wickets and has won nine domestic first-class titles with Khulna Division and South Zone.

“The guys have done so well this year and I think it’s in everyone’s best interests to stick with the guys that have worked so hard to get to this point,” Starc said in a statement. “I’ve always felt part of the club and I am right behind them for another big win on Saturday night.”Sixers general manager Jodie Hawkins said Starc and Nathan Lyon will be involved in an off-field capacity at the SCG on Saturday night and the club is comfortable with the decision to leave Starc out.”Mitch is, and always will be, a big part of the Sixers family,” Hawkins said. “Circumstances meant he and Nathan Lyon were not able to join us this season but they are both very much part of our set up and will represent the club off the field on Saturday night.”Our current squad have done an incredible job all season to qualify for the final while playing every game on the road and Mitch and the club are really comfortable with this decision.”Starc will now focus on preparations for the upcoming Test tour of South Africa although that has yet to be confirmed.

Kyle Jamieson handed fine, demerit point after wayward throw at Faheem Ashraf

The incident occurred during Pakistan’s first innings at Mount Maunganui

ESPNcricinfo staff29-Dec-2020

Kyle Jamieson has fallen foul of Article 2.9 of the ICC’s code of conduct•Getty Images

Kyle Jamieson will part with 25% of his match fee and has been docked one demerit point after he threw the ball towards Faheem Ashraf on the third day of New Zealand’s first Test against Pakistan. The act fell foul of Article 2.9 of the ICC’s code of conduct, which deals with the inappropriate or dangerous throwing of the ball at or near other players. In the 75th over of the second innings, Ashraf drove a ball back to Jamieson, who collected it and threw it back at the batsman. Ashraf was well away from the stumps when Jamieson disposed off the ball, and had displayed no intention of taking a run.The on-field umpires and the third umpire levelled the charges, with Jamieson accepting the offence and the sanction proposed by match referee Jeff Crowe. This is his first offence in a 24-month period. If a player accumulates four demerit points in that time, they are converted into suspension points, which lead to a ban.Jamieson has had a promising start to his international career, quickly becoming a vital part of New Zealand’s pace bowling attack. He was primarily responsible for Pakistan’s go-slow in that first innings with his nagging, consistent line; before tea, he had conceded just nine runs in 17 overs. A partnership between Ashraf and Mohammad Rizwan frustrated New Zealand in the third session, with Jamieson’s offence coming two balls after Rizwan cut him away for four as his line began to drift. Ashraf helped Pakistan avoid the follow-on, top-scoring for his side with 91.New Zealand entered the final day needing seven wickets to take a 1-0 lead, with Pakistan requiring an improbable 302 more runs for victory.

European giants could now sign "brilliant" Man Utd ace as soon as next week

After confirming Erik ten Hag's new contract, Manchester United could now reportedly show the door to a player who has failed to perform under the Dutchman as soon as next week.

Man Utd transfer news

It's no surprise that things have sped up at Old Trafford following the arrival of new sporting director Dan Ashworth and with pre-season approaching ahead of next season. And with that could come fresh faces and the departure of disappointing stars.

Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee

The Red Devils have been linked with the likes of Joshua Zirkzee, who looks closer to a move every week, and could yet show the door to players of Casemiro's calibre as Ashworth gets ruthless.

Ten Hag told Manchester United's official website after putting pen to paper on a new deal: "I am very pleased to have reached agreement with the club to continue working together. Looking back at the past two years, we can reflect with pride on two trophies and many examples of progression from where we were when I joined.

"However, we must also be clear that there is still lots of hard work ahead to reach the levels expected of Manchester United, which means challenging for English and European titles. In my discussions with the club, we have found complete unity in our vision for reaching those goals, and we are all strongly committed to making that journey together."

Man Utd must sell £90k-p/w flop who's worth £30.7m less than Ugarte

What's more, after sealing his future, the Dutchman could now reportedly see one of his biggest failures head for the exit door. According to GiveMeSport, Juventus could seal a deal to sign Jadon Sancho on loan as soon as next week as they look to replace Federico Chiesa, who is reportedly not in Thiago Motta's plans.

Sancho's exit just a week after Ten Hag's new deal would signify victory for the Dutchman following a public fallout between the winger once worth £73m and the Manchester United manager.

"Brilliant" Sancho needs move

Whilst Ten Hag is still in charge at Old Trafford, Sancho's future remains away from Manchester United, with Juventus seemingly his next destination. After showing glimpses of his best form at Borussia Dortmund, a move to the Serie A is one that must work out for the England international looking to get back on track following a nightmare couple of years.

Former Dortmund manager Edin Terzic was certainly impressed with the £195k-a-week Sancho during last season's loan spell, saying via The Metro: "I think the last six months, Jadon has been brilliant for us.

"It took some time to get back into shape but you can feel this quality and his skills, he’s going to improve our game straight away. He didn’t improve just his game but all the players around him. He is a player who has never thought about his first touch, it is so natural, and he is very gifted."

Despite that rediscovered brilliance, however, it doesn't seem as though Ten Hag has a place for Sancho in his Manchester United squad.
