Mohali and Indore are among venues to get two games after missing out on World Cup hosting rights
ESPNcricinfo staff25-Jul-2023
India’s five-Test series against England will include no matches in the country’s five biggest cities•BCCI
Mohali, Indore, Rajkot and Visakhapatnam will host two games each during India’s 2023-24 home season, which will feature series against Australia (three ODIs and five T20Is), Afghanistan (three T20Is) and England (five Tests). The BCCI may have awarded extra games to these four venues since they are missing out on the ODI World Cup in October-November.Among other venues that missed out on the World Cup, Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati, Nagpur and Ranchi will also host matches during the 2023-24 bilateral season. Of the cities that are set to host World Cup games, only Hyderabad – where Australia will play one T20I and England one Test – Bengaluru and Dharamsala have been awarded bilateral games. With the bilateral calendar skewed away from the traditional venues, England will play none of their five Tests at India’s five biggest cities (Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru). Instead, their tour will take them to Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi and Dharamsala. All five of these grounds have hosted five Tests or fewer.ESPNcricinfo Ltd
India’s first assignment in this home season is the ODI series against Australia, scheduled to run from September 22 to 27 in the immediate lead-up to the World Cup. The T20I series begins on November 23, four days after the World Cup final, and runs until December 3.After this, India are scheduled to tour South Africa for three T20Is (December 10 to 14), three ODIs (December 17 to 21) and two Tests (December 26-30 and January 3-7). They will get only a three-day break before the home T20I series against Afghanistan from January 11 to 17. This will be Afghanistan’s first-ever white-ball bilateral series against India. Their only previous match against India in India was their inaugural Test match in June 2018. India has, however, served as Afghanistan’s “home” venue in bilateral series against Ireland, Bangladesh and West Indies. It’s likely that a number of India’s Test players will get a break from the Afghanistan T20Is, allowing them to recuperate ahead of the first Test against England, which begins on January 25. That series is scheduled to run until March 11, with eight-day gaps between the second and third Tests and the fourth and fifth Tests.

Ambas as equipes terminaram a fase de classificação do campeonato invictas. O Alvirrubro completou a primeira etapa do Gauchão Sub-20 com perfeição.

A reporter has now dropped a four-word update from Nottingham Forest on the future of talisman Morgan Gibbs-White, as he continues to be a driving force behind the club’s fantastic season.
Nottingham Forest transfer news
The Reds’ win over Ipswich Town on Saturday moved them a step closer to achieving their dream of securing Champions League football for next season. It has been a terrific campaign for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, with the likes of Chris Wood, Anthony Elanga, Elliot Anderson, and Gibbs-White at the heart of their success.

But Forest could be the victims of their own success, as Gibbs-White is a player who is very much in demand. The midfielder has got admirers from both Manchester United and Liverpool as he continues to impress in the Premier League and has earned recognition on the international stage as well.
That interest in Gibbs-White has seen Forest join the race to sign Semih Kilicsoy from Turkish giants Besiktas. They are said to value the 19-year-old at £17 million, which has alerted other Premier League teams such as Aston Villa and Newcastle United, as well as Forest.

The Turkey under-21 international has really impressed for Besiktas this season, scoring three goals and recording four assists in 25 Super Lig games.

But while the Reds show interest in Kilicsoy, they will want him to arrive as an aid for Gibbs-White, not as a replacement. According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Nottingham Forest will “do everything they can” to keep hold of Gibbs-White in the summer.

As stated, the Forest captain has interest from big Premier League clubs, but the Reds are determined to keep hold of their best players after what has been a tremendous 2024/25 campaign. The report states that should Champions League qualification be achieved, the Midlands side would be well-placed to keep their best players for next season.

The 25-year-old has had a very impressive Premier League campaign, scoring five goals and registering seven assists in 25 league games. His form has earned him two caps for England, and while he wasn’t originally called into the squad for the next international games by Thomas Tuchel, he now finds himself in the squad after Cole Palmer pulled out through injury.
Nuno and Gibbs-White have known each other since the midfielder was 17, as he came through at Wolves. The pair find themselves working with one another once again, and Gibbs-White has labelled the relationship between the two of them as “incredible”. Therefore, Nuno will be determined to keep hold of his star midfielder beyond this summer.

Marnus Labuschagne is confident that Australia won’t be left regretting not selecting offspinner Todd Murphy for the Old Trafford Test, despite noting how Moeen Ali had found some turn on the opening day.For the first time since 2011-12 against India in Perth, Australia are playing a Test without a frontline spinner after Cameron Green was preferred to Murphy.Labuschagne’s half-century, his first in nine Test innings, was ended by Moeen shortly before tea but he believed that the help available on the first day may not last throughout the game.”It’s going to be interesting to say this, but think it will be one of those wickets, because [it’s] been undercover for a few days it didn’t have that rock hardness, the thatchiness of the grass is spinning,” he said. “Once that wears off, think the middle of the wicket will not spin so much. The ends will rough up eventually if the weather stays good, but think it will actually spin less as the game goes on from the good part of the wicket.”Stuart Broad thought Moeen had caused Australia some uncertain moments but, while noting they only need a draw at Old Trafford to retain the Ashes, he did not view their final selection as defensive.”They probably want to bat as long as they can knowing a draw is good enough for them in this game to retain the Ashes,” he said. “Ultimately when you’ve got two allrounders who both deserve to be in the team it’s a tricky decision.”Old Trafford historically is a place you would want a spinner. Moeen bowled great today so that’s something that worried them a little bit but ultimately it looks a very dangerous team. They’ve got 300 on the board and we’ve still got 12 wickets to get in the Test so it’s been a great battle so far and we can judge that selection when two innings have gone.”Related

Live Report: England vs Australia, 4th Test, Old Trafford
Whatever spin bowling is required by Australia in this Test will largely be in the hands of Travis Head, although Labuschagne is ready to play a part if needed. His legspin (he has also bowled medium pace in Test cricket and has tried offspin) is less frequently used these days than it was earlier in his career, but he was practising extensively prior to the match.”Will I be bowling? Hopefully not, because if I’m not bowling it means we are in a pretty good spot,” he said. “But if I need to bowl I’m always ready, always working on it. Think it will be leggies with the amount of left-handers and there might be some rough there if the sun continues to stay out.”With the bat, this series has been characterised by Labuschagne not being able to convert his starts and though that continued with 51 on Wednesday, he was more satisfied with his performance. “I was happy with my decision-making which has been the part that has really been frustrating me from a personal side,” he said. And he did not believe that Australia’s deeper batting order, with Alex Carey at No. 8, had led to complacency from those higher up.”I can’t talk from each individual’s mental state, but from own, no it doesn’t make a difference,” he said. “My job is to come in and score runs, and score big runs, especially when I get myself in. Our whole top-order, that’s our responsibility, so if those sorts of thoughts have crept in then that’s probably on the individual to stamp that out, if it was a thing for the second innings.”But think it gives you confidence as a player, because you bat deep and as you are able to see we were able to build partnerships there with Carey and Starc and Mitch and Greeny. Those runs are going to be vital, especially if we can get this lead up to 350. That’s going to be a pretty decent first-innings total.”

WHAT HAPPENED?
Ronaldo once again failed to claim silverware with Al-Nassr in 2024-25, leading to the five-time Ballon d'Or winner seriously considering his future. But with reports now saying he is likely to stay, the Saudi Pro League side want to armour him with some of the world's best players, including Bayern Munich defender Kim-Min jae.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Bayern have just bolstered their backline with the signing of Jonathan Tah from rivals Bayer Leverkusen, meaning their is room for Vincent Kompany to sell any unwanted talent. Kim played a lot of minutes for the Bavarians last season but is seemingly open to making the switch to the Middle East.
DID YOU KNOW?
Kim is contracted to Bayern until 2028, but with the German champions having acquired Tah for free already, they may be willing to offload the South Korean international for cheaper. Al-Nassr had a hard time preventing late goals in their most recent campaign, and Ronaldo may feel Kim's signing could pplug the hole in their defence.

One of the biggest stories in the footballing world over the past 24 hours comes from Liverpool. It seems that Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to leave the club upon the expiration of his contract in the summer.
The news has been broken by multiple sources, but perhaps the most reputable one is David Ornstein, who says that Real Madrid are ‘working to close’ the transfer for the England international.
Trent Alexander-Arnold for Liverpool
He has made 349 appearances for the club so far, scoring 22 times, grabbing 87 assists and winning countless trophies. He is a modern-day legend at Anfield in every sense of the word.
Losing a talent like Alexander-Arnold would be a blow for Liverpool, but they are in the market for someone who is arguably an even bigger talent.
Liverpool chasing a bigger talent than Alexander-Arnold
Every now and then, a gem of a talent emerges in world football, and that player instantly becomes a target for Europe’s biggest clubs.
Alexander-Arnold certainly knows that feeling now, but how can FSG, the Reds’ owners soften the blow of losing such a highly-rated homegrown talent?
Well, by signing Jorrel Hato, of course, who seems set to leave Ajax this summer.
Transfer Focus
Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.
The Dutchman isn’t a right-back but can fill in at centre-back or on the left. According to a report from TEAMtalk, the Reds have ‘shown interest’ in signing the Dutchman in recent weeks and have ‘long identified him as a top target for the summer of 2025’. That comes after the Reds looked at making a bid for the Dutchman back in January.
However, they will face stiff competition from Arsenal to sign the youngster. Fellow Premier League side Chelsea, Serie A giants AC Milan, and Los Blancos are also interested.
Ajax Amsterdam's JorrelHatocelebrates after the match
The 19-year-old could cost Liverpool upwards of £38m. That is an increase in their asking price from previous transfer windows when they are said to have wanted just £25m.
Why Hato would be a good signing
There are arguably few young players in world football as exciting as Hato. He has become a key player for Ajax in the past 12 months particularly and has already captained the Dutch giants, a testament to his leadership qualities at a young age.
Described by football talent scout Jacek Kulig as a “magnificent talent”, he has played a key role at left-back this season for the Dutch outfit, featuring 42 times for his boyhood club this term, scoring three goals and grabbing six assists from left-back.
His athleticism and reading of the game are second to none, and he has bags of technical ability, which helps him bring the ball out from the back. The video below showcases those things perfectly.
One interesting thing to look at is Alexander-Arnold’s stats at the age of 18, too. Now, it is worth pointing out that Hato has only just turned 19.
At the same age in 2017/18, the Liverpool number 66 played 34 games, scoring three goals, including one against Swansea City, and grabbed two assists.
The pair can also be compared statistically. Assessing the stats, via Sofascore, for Hato in the Dutch top flight so far this season, he completes 47.5 passes and attempts an average of 2.3 tackles per 90 minutes.
In comparison, the Liverpool defender back in 2017/18 was not quite as high with some of his key metrics, completing just 44.5 passes and attempting just 2.1 tackles per game.

There is no doubt that Hato is an incredibly talented young player, shown in the fact that Liverpool and other top clubs want to sign him. In fact, he has even been described as “one of the most talented CBs of his generation in Europe” by Kulig in a separate post on social media.
As a result, there is certainly a strong case to be made that he is a more talented player than Alexander-Arnold was at the same age.
If the Reds are to bring him in this summer, it will be an excellent piece of business, and they would be signing an elite talent.
