Bayern Munich given boost in hunt for new striker as Bundesliga champions contact Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic over free transfer

Bayern Munich have stepped up their pursuit of Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, making contact with his representatives. Reports from Germany claim the 25-year-old is “very interested” in a move, with the Bundesliga champions exploring a potential free transfer next summer amid ongoing uncertainty over their striker options.

Bayern reignite Vlahovic pursuit

The Bavarians are once again eyeing Juve forward Vlahovic as part of their long-term striker plans, according to multiple reports in Germany. revealed that the Bundesliga champions have recently made contact with the 25-year-old’s camp, reviving interest that dates back to 2023. With Vlahovic’s contract in Turin set to expire in 2026, the Bavarians are monitoring the situation closely in hopes of landing him on a free transfer next summer. The Serbian, who joined Juve from Fiorentina for around €83 million (£71m/$91m) in 2022, has reportedly expressed keen interest in joining Bayern. Sporting director Max Eberl and technical chief Christoph Freund are said to view him as a potential attacking option, should the Englishman consider a move away from the Allianz Arena in the future, which is unclear and unlikely given the fact that Harry Kane has recently also denied such rumours.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportMixed signals from Germany

While the report insists Bayern have initiated contact, offers a more cautious view. According to their report, Vlahovic is not currently a concrete target” for the Bavarians, who are in no rush to make a final decision. Instead, Bayern are said to be observing Nicolas Jackson’s progress after the Senegalese forward joined on loan from Chelsea in the summer as they hold an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

Juventus open to offers for Vlahovic

Juve, meanwhile, appear prepared for life beyond Vlahovic as the striker’s contract runs until June 2026, and the Bianconeri are reportedly open to offers as early as the January transfer window. Reports from Italy claim that Manchester United and Chelsea remain in the “first row” for a potential move, but Bayern’s renewed interest could shift the dynamic. Vlahovic has made an impressive start to the 2025-26 campaign, scoring four goals and providing one assist across eight appearances in all competitions. His form has once again put him on the radar of Europe’s elite, with Juve likely to demand a massive sum if a January exit materialises.

Getty Images SportWill Vlahovic be Harry Kane's replacement?

The speculation surrounding Vlahovic also ties into ongoing discussions about Kane’s future. Although the England captain has cooled rumours of a return to Tottenham, he has admitted that his long-term plans could depend on Bayern’s success this season.

“I’m totally focused on Bayern,” Kane said recently. From a tactical perspective, Vlahovic shares many of Kane’s traits, strength, composure, and a diverse range of finishing both on the ground and in the air. His natural goal-scoring instincts and physical presence make him a stylistic fit for Bayern’s system, who prefers a traditional centre-forward capable of linking play and pressing aggressively, but if Kane stays, fixing him in the attack alongside the English hero and Jackson would become a challenge for Vincent Kompany.

CARREIRA DO ATLETA

'Worry about just flicking a switch' – Alexi Lalas unconvinced by Mauricio Pochettino’s experimental approach to USMNT rosters with World Cup looming

Former national team player Alexi Lalas raised concerns about USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettino’s experimentation with the team's roster, acknowledging the coach’s right to try options, but saying he's surprised there is not yet a settled starting XI ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Pochettino's side drew Ecuador and beat Australia over the last week.

  • Getty Images Sport

    Experimentation versus clarity

Lalas pointed out that that Pochettino's current approach differs from the clarity he initially suggested he would provide.

“I've given up,” Lalas said on his State of the Union podcast. “I have, you know, resigned myself to the fact that Mauricio Pochettino is going to continue to experiment, leading all the way up to the World Cup. And again, that in and of itself isn't necessarily wrong or a bad thing. It's just the way that he intimated about what he was going to do. This is just very, very different.

“And I think that that makes it fair to criticize. And I kind of want to see him kind of lay it down and say, 'I am going to use this next window or these games as if the World Cup is happening. And I'm going to bring everybody that I can possibly bring in. And then I'm going to start who I think for that game is the best possible XI. And there's not going to be excuses.'”

  • 'Flicking a switch' strategy

Lalas noted that the USMNT have limited competitive matches left before the World Cup, which could jeopardize the team’s readiness.

“There's a risk because, you know, people see a Christian Pulisic and yeah, we can put him in bubble wrap and mothballs until next summer and he doesn't ever touch the field lest he get hurt. But that's not realistic," he said. "It's not realistic for him or any big-time player. You got to be smart, of course. But again, we don't have qualifying. We don't have a lot of games. And so I worry about just flicking a switch or putting on the tap and expecting the power of the water to be there.

“I hope it is. But it seems that's ultimately what is going to happen. Now, it would be a much more informed decision or flicking of the switch, if you will, because of all the information that Pochettino has.”

  • The challenge facing Pochettino

With the 2026 World Cup less than a year away, the USMNT faces the task of balancing experimentation with the need for a settled, confident lineup. Pochettino must decide when to stop testing and begin solidifying his best starting eleven to build cohesion and tactical understanding.

Sai Sudharsan: 'I have expanded my batting; mentally I'm a bit more free and expressive'

“There’s a bit of joy when you finish games for the team”, he said after scoring a match-winning century

‘DC got it wrong with their bowling match-ups’

Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill felt his team may have conceded “ten to 15 extra” to Delhi Capitals (DC). But B Sai Sudharsan and he more than made up for it with an unbroken 205-run opening stand that powered GT to a ten-wicket win that also put them in the IPL 2025 playoffs. GT now sit top of the table, with two league games – and potentially a home playoff – still to come.”Honestly, at the halfway point, I thought we gave ten to 15 extra,” Gill said on the broadcast. “There was a little bit of grip for the spinners. They [DC] batted well, kept wickets in hand, and utilised the wicket pretty well. When we went out to bat, the talk was to just try and play good cricket shots, and once we were in the flow, we can take the game from there.”Gill, who revealed that the enforced break in the IPL had allowed him to recover from a bug, finished unbeaten on 93, while Sai Sudharsan brought up his second IPL hundred – 108 not out off just 61 balls. Together, the two have now amassed 839 runs (and counting) this season, the most by an Indian opening pair in IPL history.Related

“There’s a bit of joy when you finish games for the team,” Sai Sudharsan, the Player of the Match, said. “In the break we got, I was thinking on that [finishing games] a bit more. Between overs seven to ten, they bowled really well [DC conceded 30 to leave GT 93 without loss]. The momentum went down a bit.”We wanted to take the game deep, didn’t want to be desperate to take a lot of chances, have a cool enough mindset to take the game deep. And we got two or three big overs that changed the game. In the previous games, I took chances and got out. Here, I was aware enough to take the game deep, and take my chances against the right match-ups.”Asked about the changes in his approach to T20 batting, Sai Sudharsan pointed to growing belief and mental freedom. “I’ve started to believe a bit more,” he said. “From my mindset point of view, the belief I have has gotten better to take the game deeper and win games. I have expanded my batting, explored my batting; mentally I’m a bit more free and expressive.”1:21

Moody: Gill, Sai Sudharsan now have five gears

Sai Sudharsan also praised his captain when asked about their partnership and understanding. “When I got after the bowlers, he complements me; we rotate strike and run really well,” he said. “In the middle overs, running is a vital thing for us. When I do some mistakes, he makes me aware, and similarly from my side as well.”Meanwhile, GT batting coach Parthiv Patel credited the pair’s chemistry and risk-free aggression for their continued success.”You talk of high-risk, high reward. These two play low-risk cricket and still have the ability to hit down the ground and get boundaries and sixes,” Parthiv said. “The fours they hit in the powerplay… I feel they know their game, on top of everything. People don’t see how much hard work they put in, creating those basics stronger, that’s why they are scoring runs. They communicate really well.”Last year also, they batted brilliantly. When the season started, everyone thought [Jos] Buttler would be opening. These two knew what they are doing. The opening pair is about chemistry and knowing each other’s game really well, and these two know their games really well.”

Rangers can forget Dyche & Gerrard by hiring"outstanding" Martin upgrade

Russell Martin’s days as Glasgow Rangers manager are surely numbered.

To date, the shortest-serving permanent head coach in the Ibrox club’s 153-year history is Pedro Caixinha, who took charge of just 26 games in 2017.

For Martin to reach that mark, he would still need to be in charge by the time the Light Blues face Braga in the Europa League on 27 November which, right now, feels frankly fanciful.

On Saturday, the Gers were beaten 2-0 by Heart of Midlothian at Ibrox, meaning they’ve failed to win their opening five league fixtures for only the second time in their entire history, also doing so in 1978, currently sat tenth in the Premiership table.

Thus, supporters are already wondering who will replace Martin as manager, hoping the 49ers make this decision sooner rather than later, but should they go for a more left-field candidate, one praised for the “outstanding” job he did at his previous club, rather than the obvious options?

Leading candidates to become Rangers manager

According to reports, the two front-runners to become the new Rangers manager are Steven Gerrard and Sean Dyche.

Gerrard has been out of work since being sacked by Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq in January, having won only 19 of 55 matches in charge.

His time as Aston Villa boss didn’t go particularly well either, but the Liverpool legend did enjoy a very successful time at Ibrox.

In 192 matches as Rangers boss, Gerrard collected 124 wins, leading them to memorable European victories over Porto, Feyenoord, Braga, Galatasaray and others, historically guiding the club to their sole top-flight title since 2011, crucially denying Celtic ten-in-a-row.

Manager Focus

Who are the greatest coaches in the land? Football FanCast’s Manager Focus series aims to reveal all.

Other candidate, Dyche, meantime was sacked by Everton in January, but is best known for his work at Burnley, leading them to two promotions, six successive seasons in the top division and a maiden European campaign since 1967.

Everton manager Sean Dyche

The Englishman is vastly experienced, having managed 332 Premier League games; for comparison, Martin has overseen just 16, winning only one.

Dyche would represent the archetypal safe pair of hands appointment, while re-hiring Gerrard would suggest the new owners are simply looking to the past to rediscover former glories, so they should instead target an up-and-coming young coach.

Rangers' dream Russell Martin replacement

When searching through the current out-of-work managers, one name leaps off the page and that is Danny Röhl.

Reports emerged over the summer that he was on the Gers’ shortlist, but it’s unknown if any contact was made.

After an unremarkable playing career, appearing for lower league German clubs FSV Zwickau, Sachsen Leipzig and Eilenburg, he retired at the age of 21 to focus on becoming a coach.

Well, this has certainly paid off because, after joining RB Leipzig in 2010, he worked as a youth coach and a video analyst before being appointed assistant manager in 2016, following die Roten’s promotion to the Bundesliga, working alongside Ralph Hasenhüttl.

After that, he went with Hasenhüttl to Southampton, before moving on to Bayern Munich, learning under Niko Kovač and then Hansi Flick at the Rekordmeister, subsequently working under Flick again with the German national team for two years.

However, after Flick was sacked as die Mannschaft boss in 2023, he took his first head coach role, appointed Sheffield Wednesday manager, thereby becoming the youngest permanent boss in EFL history at the age of just 34.

Well, Röhl would oversee 89 games in charge at Hillsborough, very much beloved by supporters, with Philip Buckingham of the Athletic describing the job he did in charge of the Owls as “outstanding”, suggesting that numerous big clubs should “covet” his signature.

The table below documents his statistics from his time in Yorkshire.

Meantime, last season’s mid-table finish looks even more impressive given that owner Dejphon Chansiri is essentially running the club into the ground, with players and other staff repeatedly not being paid on time, if at all, hence why Röhl walked out over the summer.

Rangers themselves have already benefited from the crisis at Hillsborough, signing star winger Djeidi Gassama for around £3m, when it is clear to everyone he is worth more than that.

Thus, Röhl has already proven that he is capable of managing a crisis club, as well as coming in and having an instant impact mid-season, all things Rangers need right now, so the 49ers should be bold and appoint the 36-year-old as soon as possible.

Not just Wirtz: Slot must drop 3/10 Liverpool star who was as bad as Konate

Liverpool’s unbelievable winning run of form came to a worrying halt at the hands of Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Amazingly, this isn’t the only time this season the Eagles have unnerved Arne Slot’s title-defending Reds, with last campaign’s Premier League winners also coming unstuck against Glasner and Co in a dramatic Community Shield final back in August.

Not even more late heroics could guide the Merseyside outfit to a result on the road, as Federico Chiesa’s 87th-minute equaliser was made redundant by Eddie Nketiah’s heartbreaking winner right at the death.

This will be a bitter pill Liverpool aren’t used to swallowing, but Slot will hope his table-topping side can bounce from this setback at Selhurst Park with confident displays moving forward.

However, plenty more is required from Florian Wirtz and Mohamed Salah moving forward to remain in the Dutchman’s good books.

Wirtz & Salah's worrying performances in numbers

At least Salah has some significant credit in the bank, considering his insane tally of 29 goals and 18 assists last season in the Premier League alone saw Slot’s men romp home to the title.

On the other hand, Wirtz has very little wiggle room when it comes to the rampant criticism heading his direction, with the whopping £116m purchase still yet to pick up a goal or assist for the Reds from seven competitive outings, away from his Community Shield final assist.

Journalist Mark Odgen has openly commented on Wirtz “struggling to make an impact” since swapping the BayArena for Anfield, with one big chance missed at Selhurst Park not helping his dented reputation one bit.

Salah missed two big chances of his own in East London, too, with the out-of-sorts Egyptian now without a goal from open play in the Premier League this season since the opening day 4-2 triumph over AFC Bournemouth.

Yet, in the case of the skilful number 11, you wouldn’t bank against him getting back to his best very soon, even after such a slow start to this campaign. On top of that, Wirtz might just need time to settle before proving to everyone why he cost such an astronomical fee.

Perhaps more worryingly, away from the unsatisfactory duo, there is also another underperformer who has fallen way below his usual standards, so much so that he will now be fearful of being axed from Slot’s first team picture.

Chalkboard

Football FanCast’s Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.

Liverpool's 3/10 star could be dropped

Liverpool had been dancing on a tightrope heading into the Palace loss, having needed a staggering amount of last-minute goals to then inspire late wins.

Off the back of a defeat now finally occurring, Slot could be tempted to shake up his starting lineup for some challenging contests to follow in the Premier League and beyond, with Alexis Mac Allister one face who could drop out of his plans consequently.

On top form, Mac Allister is a shoo-in for the starting XI week in week out, with his five goals and five assists last season in league action very much helping Liverpool clinch a first Premier League triumph under Slot.

His consistent excellence for the Reds has even seen ex-Chelsea star turned pundit Joe Cole label the South American as a “superstar”.

Still, as has been clear with Salah, even Liverpool’s brightest sparks are susceptible to rusty displays, with Mac Allister way off his vibrant and energetic peak at Selhurst Park.

Indeed, when looking at the table above, it’s clear that Mac Allister struggled to match the intensity of Palace livewire Adam Wharton, with the Palace number 20 a standout performer from the middle of the park for Glasner’s men.

On the contrary, his Argentine counterpart failed to complete a single successful dribble, didn’t register a single interception, and failed to hit a single on-target effort at the Palace goal.

This stark drop-off in form – which has seen Mac Allister win just nine of his 21 ground duels in the league so far – has even seen one Reds-based content creator state that the ex-Brighton and Hove Albion man looks a “shadow of himself”, with Liverpool World’s Will Rooney also not holding back when dishing out a low 3/10 post-match rating to the sub-par number ten.

For context, that same post-game rating was handed to central defender Ibrahima Konate who was rather run ragged in London on Saturday afternoon.

Slot will have to seriously consider how many first-team minutes Mac Allister gets moving forward – with Champions League action also about to congest the Reds’ fixture list – with some time out of the starting XI perhaps doing him the world of good in the long run.

Chelsea let "incredible" star leave for £0, now he's outperforming Chalobah

The last couple of weeks for Chelsea have been topsy-turvy to say the least, with the last couple of outings falling way below the standards of manager Enzo Maresca.

Expectations were heightened after the summer recruitment, which saw just shy of £300m of new talent making the move to Stamford Bridge during the off-season.

However, in the first six outings, the Blues have been victorious twice, with their last win coming way back at the end of August with a 2-0 win over London rivals Fulham.

The Italian will no doubt want to correct such a slump, which has seen his side lose both of their last two Premier League outings to both Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Such attempts haven’t been aided by the side’s disciplinary record in recent outings, with the side collecting two red cards in each of the last two matches in England’s top-flight.

Trevoh Chalobah's worrying start to 2025/26 for Chelsea

After Robert Sanchez’s dismissal against Manchester United last week, centre-back Trevoh Chalobah became the second Chelsea player in as many matches to be sent for an early bath.

The centre-back started his eighth consecutive game of the 2025/26 campaign, but once again failed to deliver – even before his straight red card against Fabian Hurzeler’s side.

The England international was adjudged to have slipped Diego Gomez whilst the attacker was through on goal, leading to a VAR intervention

and his subsequent dismissal.

However, up until he left the field after 53 minutes, he struggled to have the desired effect, failing to win any of the duels he entered whilst also failing to make a single tackle.

The 26-year-old certainly cost the side the three points in West London, with the Blues still struggling with finding their best partnership at the heart of the backline.

As a result, the club may have made a mistake in allowing one player to depart – with the former first team member reaching the next level in his career after leaving the club.

The former Chelsea star who’s now better than Chalobah

Given the sheer volume of players turned over at Chelsea over the last couple of years, it’s no surprise that players who have been offloaded have managed to star elsewhere.

Since Todd Boehly arrived back in May 2022, the Blues have spent upwards of £1.4b on new additions to help them rise up the Premier League table in the near future.

However, in an attempt to strengthen, players have also had to make way to help balance the books and lessen the risk of being hit with any punishment for breaking PSR rules.

In the summer of 2024, numerous players were sacrificed by new boss Maresca, one of whom was centre-back Malang Sarr, who departed on a free transfer to join French side Lens.

He originally joined on a free transfer from Nice back in the summer of 2020, arriving with a lot of hype given his four-year stint in the first team in Ligue 1.

However, injuries and lack of faith from the manager saw him rapidly fall down the pecking order, subsequently making just 21 appearances for the Blues.

As a result, the 26-year-old would return to his homeland, with Sarr resurrecting his once promising career with Lens over the last couple of seasons.

He’s featured in every minute of the league campaign in 2025/26 to date, subsequently managing to outperform current first-team star Chalobah in the process.

Sarr, who’s been labelled “incredible” by one analyst, has won more tackles per 90, whilst also winning more aerial duels – offering a more dominant option to Maresca had he been kept on the books.

The Frenchman has also completed more of the passes he’s attempted, arguably offering a more rounded ball-playing option – something which is vital in the Italian’s current system.

To top off his dominance over the England international, he’s also made more clearances and interceptions per 90 – further showcasing his incredible talents out of possession.

Such numbers highlight the superb rise Sarr has endured over the last few years, with his move to Lens undoubtedly being a success after his failure at Stamford Bridge.

The decision to allow him to depart now appears to be a questionable one, with the Blues’ loss now the French side’s gain given his tremendous form over recent times.

'It is totally performance-based' – Bangladesh's sports adviser on Faruque's removal

Bangladesh’s sports adviser Asif Mahmud has said that the ICC welcomed the change in leadership in the BCB after they were communicated of the decision. On Friday, the BCB’s board of directors elected Aminul Islam as the new president after the sports ministry removed Faruque Ahmed as its representative.”We have properly contacted the ICC. The new president also worked in the ICC for a long time,” Asif said in a press briefing in Dhaka on Saturday. “There’s no communication gap. ICC knows the situation here, so they have welcomed the decision.”Asif said that Faruque didn’t perform well in the nine months that he was in charge, while he was also linked to irregularities in the sports ministry’s fact-finding committee report. Eight BCB directors also sent a no-confidence motion against Faruque, which the sports ministry considered in its decision as well, Asif added.”We have seen in the report from the BPL’s fact-finding committee that there were instances of irregularity and negligence of responsibility,” he said. “We found Faruque’s link with them. Eight out of the nine BCB directors sent the NSC (the National Sports Council) a no-confidence motion.”Related

  • Anatomy of a fall: How the BCB presidency changed hands

  • Aminul Islam elected new BCB president

  • Faruque Ahmed removed as BCB president

The BCB constitution allows the sports ministry to have a quota of five councillors (members) and two board directors. The ministry had nominated Faruque and Nazmul Abedeen Fahim as their directors on August 21 last year, shortly after which the BCB directors unanimously elected Faruque as the new president. Nine months later, the ministry removed Faruque, and replaced him with Aminul. Asif said that the ministry has the right to pick and drop their nomination as councillor or director.”I spoke to Faruque personally. It is not like we removed him because we found corruption charges against him,” he said. “It is totally performance-based. Just like a selection committee wouldn’t pick an out-of-form player, it is the same for us.”NSC has the jurisdiction to give or take a [BCB director] nomination. We didn’t remove the president. We took his directorship, which is why his presidency was gone. We nominated another director. The board followed the ICC guideline and BCB constitution to elect the next president.”Asif said that Faruque’s decision-making during the BPL, particularly in selecting the Durbar Rajshahi franchise for the 2025 edition, was costly. He said that the payment issue was so embarrassing that Dr Muhammad Yunus, the country’s Chief Advisor, didn’t attend the BPL final.”The BPL’s fact-finding committee spoke to BPL’s stakeholders, including Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, the BPL’s member-secretary. The sports ministry had informed our concerns about the owners of Durbar Rajshahi,” Asif said. “[Selecting them as a franchise] was an individual’s decision. In the end, even the government had to be involved to solve the players’ payment and hotel bill issue of that team. It was an undesirable situation. Our head of government couldn’t attend the BPL final, which was quite shameful for everyone.”
